L.J. Mazzilli has been traded to the MFYs for OF Kendall Coleman.

Coleman is a lefty hitter and thrower. Hasn't advanced beyond A-ball after five professional seasons. .207/.309/.301. 245 strikeouts in 893 plate appearances.

Is L.J.'s sister part of the Yankee broadcast?

Trying to see the upside of this deal, and it's not exactly jumping out at me.

The guy has amazingly been successful in 6 of his 23 career attempted steals, a 26.1% rate, so even if he breaks form and gets on base, he's still a pretty good threat to make some outs.

He had better be a helluva fielder or something.

I'm certain this was a "we we're going to release you anyway" kinda deal.

Mazzilli is 27 already. I don't think this deal means much of anything.

And Coleman not quite 23, drafted out of a Texas HS in the 11th round in 2013.
But spending the entire season *four years later* with Staten Island in the NY-Penn League doesn't indicate much promise.

Agree. I don't know what the impetus for this deal would be from either side.

Is LJ Mazzilli forthright in his Christian faith?

And has anybody seen John Christensen lately?

Re: Like Turncoat Father, Like Turncoat Son

Well, from the Yankee side, the Mazzilli family is now part of their brand. A pair of twins, one playing for the team and the other doing flirty sideline reporting, is marketing $$. Who doesn't love twins?

Mazzilli probably has what it takes to get some time as a big league reserve, but the Mets are backloaded in big league-ready infielders, so it was going to take a bus crash for him to break through in Flushing. And you sure don't want to root for that.

One thing about Coleman is that he missed most of his first two seasons with injuries. He had allegedly made some progress in the later stages of last season, but it looks like 2018 is his make-or-break year.

I mean, yes, I get the sentiment, but it's juuuust a little too soon for that one.

We could send him to Binghamton except that he's being blocked there by frickin' Tebow.
