Partial right elbow UCL tear. Fuck.

"May need surgery," according to Matt Ehalt of the Record.

Does that Ehalt guy have his finger on the pulse? Or he just the fastest tweeter-er? Suxxx for Travvy. Miguel Montero just cut loose by the Nats. Who's to say if he's even better than Nido.

Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018

Lobaton's not on the 40 or he would have been up. But I'd have to think Jose's the long-term backup here, unless Nido starts tearing it up.

Montero's really fallen off a cliff since his D-Back days. Wouldn't want him.

if d'Arnaud needs surgery you can 60 day him probably and make the roster spot.

So what does "May need surgery" mean in Metsspeak?

Beats me, but Matt Harvey just went out to buy a six-pack of big black dildos.

Not sure what's worse, that a 6-year Met / promising player / former 1st round draft pick / major trade pick-up has quite possibly played his last game as a Met without ever had a full season under his belt,
or that the news of a starting player being lost for maybe the season gets stuffed onto Page 4 of what's likely to be a season-long, 25-page, all-purpose thread?

OK, it's definitely the former but the latter bothers me also.

"See you in 2020."

I didn't even realize it was his last season tbh and hadn't quite connected the 'season is probably over' bits.

hell, we're probably lucky teams don't just DFA guys in this situation.

That fucking sucks

D;Arnaud got hurt during our last big early-season win streak and screwed things up then too

Could be it for him in a Met uniform.

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

According to Baseball Reference, Travis is under the Mets control through 2019. He could become a free agent after the 2019 season and sign for 2020.

d'Arnaud is under team control through 2019. [crossed posts w/Grimm]
TJS (if that's the ultimate route) isn't as long a recovery timespan for position players as it is for pitchers but it's probably longer for catchers than it is for most other positions.
So while the surgery wouldn't necessarily kill the rest of 2018 plus all of '19, it could take things into 2019 which might be enough for the Mets to wave (or waive) bye-bye come this November.

Even if they could, they'd still have to pay his full freight for this year so there's simply no advantage to doing so now as opposed to later and certainly a downside if recovery is quicker than anticipated.

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

Doesn't Seth Lugo have a partially torn UCL? And he's pitching. (Or am I confused? Does he have a partially torn something else?)

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

I'm guessing the extents of their respective tears may vary somewhat.

If Plawecki's hand is even a medium-term issue, I think making an additional signing/trade might be in order. Along with Montero, Chooch Ruiz and Geovany Soto are squatting by the phone, professionally unattached.

A trade for Realmuto would make sense

Miami: "The only way we part with Realmuto is if you'll see clear to sending us L.J. Mazzilli."

Mets: "(shit)"

I'll bet they'd do it for PJ Conlon and Tomas Nido

Would they insist on a forthright Christian like Brandon Nimmo?

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

I'd love Realmuto also, but he's coming off an injury of his own right now and hasn't played yet this season. But heck, if that keeps the price down, I say go for it.

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

I'm guessing they'd want Dominic Smith at the least. It would be a tough call if they did. I guess if you have faith in Alonso you pull the trigger on that.

I still think Plawecki can be good. If we can get a glove guy who guns down baserunners to back him up I'd be ok with that.

I think that is Nido, right? I keep hearing good things about his arm. I'm hopeful Plawecki becomes the guy who always hit in the minors, but I would definitely be shaking all the catcher trees at the same time.

Re: Travis' UCL (split from Trainer's Room)

As for an established catcher via trade? P.J. Conlon's stock seems to be going up. That and a christian might do it.

Mets announce d'Arnaud will have Tommy John surgery next week, will be out for remainder of year.
