Really the only sensible solution, for the team and for Harvey.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

Agreed. He's their sixth best starter right now, and that's assuming you aren't even considering Lugo and Gsellman. And I think he has a better chance of working things out under the watch of Callaway here than in Las Vegas.

If he'd even agree to go there.

If it meant he could get a huge contract as an effective reliever, Boras would allow Harvey to be sent to Nepal and tell him to go there.

Matts pissed off, but he also said "I've got to get my shit together". I like that he is not in any form of denial.

Yea, this was the right move.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

I have this sinking feeling that Harvey is going to be terrible in the pen. I thought Gsellman had the stuff and the personality to thrive in the pen, but I think Harvey is going to be terrible. Mainly because I feel like his heart is not going to be into it.

Harvey's heart is the real puzzle to be solved. He seemed miserable long before he got this lost.

I've been you guys Harvey was a dick for 5 years.

I think it's possible he does great in the pen where being a dick is more of an advantage

Re: The other shoe dropped.

I don't see it. If Harvey no longer has it as a starter, he won't have it as a reliever. This isn't a stamina issue where he's running out of gas after a few innings. It's a stuff issue. The only thing is that it might take the league a few appearances to truly scout him and study his film. Because he wasn't fooling anybody the second or third time around the lineups he's been facing and if anything, they've been getting to him earlier and earlier. When is he going to pitch as it is in relief? With the game on the line? Or when the Mets are down by eight?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets first inclination was to send Harvey to the minors, but that Harvey didn't cooperate, and this is all being kept secret.

PS -- my crazy smartphone automatically inserted the word Oswald after I typed in "Harvey". Matt Harvey Oswald.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

I mean, pretty much all pitchers get better and more velocity in the pen, and Harvey's velocity has been down and down and down. So this very well could help.

I still think his primary issue is command but there's certainly the argument that he had never had command and velocity helped him get away with it, so maybe the reliever boost will work wonders.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

During his peak, Harvey's command was super. And he was throwing 99, I00 MPH to boot.

With a nasty bite on his slider.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

Anyway, this is a pitcher that it was widely assumed when he was the talk of the town and on top of the world that he would never stay a Met as soon as he hit free agency and to rub it in, would probably sign with the Yankees.

Re: The other shoe dropped.

If he doesn't get his act together, and continues to pitch this badly, he doesn't deserve a spot, either in the rotation or the bullpen. He won't go to Vegas? Release him. This is his last year as a Met anyway. Maybe they'll get lucky and some team will claim him on waivers and take on his salary, though that's doubtful.
