Kurt Loder On Location, 2018

This just in: Lindsey Buckingham quits Fleetwood Mac, replaced by ex-Heartbreaker Mike Campbell AND Neil Finn of Crowded House?!?

Back to you, Tabitha.

Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018

That's the story we're working on, Kurt, but ... quit? Or fired? Different parties are giving different accounts. One thing is for sure. Something has broken the chain. Two new guitarists certainly make the Fleetwood Mac house that much more crowded, as Finn and Campbell represent the 17th and 18th members to join the British-American — now British-American-Kiwi — band.

Friends — at least those friends Buckingham has left — are reportedly afraid the enigmatic guitarist producer will go insane following these latest developments. We'll have more on this breaking story Monday morning. Back to you.

Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are both great musicians in their own right, but I can't see this combination being accepted this late in the game.

This was, of course, all predictd 47 years ago when the Mac released their 1971 album Future Games, itself introducing two new members in Bob Welch and Christine McVie.

On the Fleetwood Mac topic, looks like Stevie Nicks is out with an autobio -- or at least an 'as told to' by the 'HAMMER OF THE GODS' author -- although I suspect her take on
things will likely confuse matters in the whole FM soap opera saga rather than settle them.

Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018

I read the Nicks book; the pre FM stuff and her insecurities about her position in the band were both interesting.

In the book, it seemed like every time post-Rumours they went out on tour Buckingham had some hang-up about tour plans and locked horns with the others, whether it was money, travel, who their preferred coke dealer was going to be, etc.

So when I first heard about this "firing" I immediately thought that Lindsey had an issue with something Mick planned and decided to take his guitar and play in his own sandbox.

They've turned down billion-dollar offers to reunite and tour. BILLION!

Good for them that they return with new recordings that are going to be far more scrutinized than a tour ever would be. Following up with an avatar tour, not so much.

So a young friend of mine — 27, born in the 90s — put up a post asking for folks' favorite floor-filler, the song that invariably gets them onto the dance floor.

I braced for a litany of "Single Ladies," "Shake It Off," and whatever Katy Perry is singing, but TWO independent people separately wrote "Little Willie."

Is there a millennial Sweet revival that I'm not privy to?

ABBA had only one #1 on the Billboard 200, "Dancing Queen," which was #1 in 1976.

Ace of Base also had only one #1 on the Billboard 200, "The Sign," which was #1 in 1993.

In-between these two #1's another Swedish act had FOUR #1 hits!

Correct!

"The Look" #1 in 1989
"Listen to Your Heart" #1 in 1989
"It Must Have Been Love" #1 in 1990
"Joyride" #1 in 1991

Another curious bit of trivia I picked up from this podcast is that all three of these bands have an equal balance of women and men.

I knew this one right away. Lest we forget, however, that Roxette was a terrible band. Those hits all suck a butt slathered in a sauce composed primarily of beef broth and heavy cream, with allspice, nutmeg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire, and Dijon.

Seeing as how ABBA was the one legit Swedish band I knew, I would have been forced to go to novelty act RED NEX as my next guess.
Whilst tubing down the Shenandoah River in in Harper's Ferry WV last summer, a DJ for an impromptu party on some nearby rocks began blasting their version of 'Cotton Eye Joe'
And lemme tell you, if you ever want to know what tune is guaranteed to get a bunch of red necks up and dancing, you now have your answer (red necks dancing to Red Nex)

I understand the Reens' plan is to continue to perform with a range of singers. They also whacked the new bass player "The Thrilla" and brought back Mesaros again, which I think indicates they're not going to play a whole lot anymore.

Because I'm easily amused I've been listening to the new Fratellis record. Is this Prince-ly or what?

Kurt Loder here with the astonishing news that Journey's long disappeared singer Steve Perry is back -- and syrupy as ever. He released a new single this week and is prepping a new album under his own name, rather than rejoin Journey or for that matter, a Phillipines-based Journey cover band. 20 years after his last record, and inspired by the death of a former lover Steve appears in fine voice, and brings along an icky, thick production, especially on the harmonies, that blend the worst of Perry's 80s heyday and today. But there's "no erasin" this song from your head, so hit the "play" button carefully!

I've also been handed a bulletin that Perry's one-time piano man and musical compadre Jonathan Cain has a new bio out in which he contends that Perry has carried through on a threat made to never play with Journey again if they went on with a new singer. Cain also preaches about God and Trump, so fuck him. Back to you, Tabitha!
