Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are both great musicians in their own right, but I can't see this combination being accepted this late in the game.

It's 2018, and there's still Fleetwood Mac drama.

This was, of course, all predictd 47 years ago when the Mac released their 1971 album Future Games, itself introducing two new members in Bob Welch and Christine McVie.

The other day I was rockin out to Bob Welch.

Fman99 Apr 10 2018 06:57 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
I'm a big fan of that mid-era Mac -- the post blues, pre Nicks/Buckingham era has all kinds of very diggable music.

I like Rob Sheffield's music writing. And in a weird coincidence, his grandfather used to own the house I live in now.

On the Fleetwood Mac topic, looks like Stevie Nicks is out with an autobio -- or at least an 'as told to' by the 'HAMMER OF THE GODS' author -- although I suspect her take on

I read the Nicks book; the pre FM stuff and her insecurities about her position in the band were both interesting.

41Forever Apr 27 2018 07:09 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
My buddy growing up was a huge ABBA fan, so I know far more about ABBA than I should. So I can tell you that this is a big deal:

Edgy MD May 03 2018 09:36 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
So a young friend of mine — 27, born in the 90s — put up a post asking for folks' favorite floor-filler, the song that invariably gets them onto the dance floor.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2018 09:17 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
This reads like a trick question, but I'll risk it all, Alex. What is Abba?
|
Mets Willets Point May 08 2018 09:19 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
|
Wrong!
|
Edgy MD May 08 2018 09:20 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
I'll go with the ABBA of the 90s: Ace of Base.
|
Mets Willets Point May 08 2018 09:21 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
|
Also wrong. I heard this on a podcast where the person guessing made the same two incorrect guesses in the same order.
|
Mets Willets Point May 08 2018 09:28 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
ABBA had only one #1 on the Billboard 200, "Dancing Queen," which was #1 in 1976.
|
41Forever May 08 2018 09:32 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
1980s music is in my wheelhouse! I know Ace of Base friends Roxette hit with "The Look."
|
Mets Willets Point May 08 2018 09:36 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
|
Correct! "The Look" #1 in 1989 "Listen to Your Heart" #1 in 1989 "It Must Have Been Love" #1 in 1990 "Joyride" #1 in 1991 Another curious bit of trivia I picked up from this podcast is that all three of these bands have an equal balance of women and men.
|
Edgy MD May 08 2018 10:13 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
Roxette was my original guess but I lost heart and went for AoB.
|
Fman99 May 08 2018 10:23 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
|
I knew this one right away. Lest we forget, however, that Roxette was a terrible band. Those hits all suck a butt slathered in a sauce composed primarily of beef broth and heavy cream, with allspice, nutmeg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire, and Dijon.

|
Mets Willets Point May 08 2018 11:48 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
That's why this is a good trivia question because ABBA is obvious and people are going to remember Ace of Base. But Roxette sucked so much it's not worth remembering them much less remembering four #1 hits.
|
Edgy MD May 08 2018 11:57 AM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
Not for nothing, but I'd rock out for 48 hours straight to Roxette before Acing my Base.
|
Fman99 May 08 2018 12:20 PM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |

I'm sure everyone in that band blew a Swede at some point.

1) I've never heard of 'Roxette' so my odds of winning this contest were somewhat less than winning the lottery
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 08 2018 12:52 PM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
Joyride ain't bad.
|
Frayed Knot May 08 2018 01:09 PM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
|
Is that, like, possible? Seeing as how ABBA was the one legit Swedish band I knew, I would have been forced to go to novelty act RED NEX as my next guess. Whilst tubing down the Shenandoah River in in Harper's Ferry WV last summer, a DJ for an impromptu party on some nearby rocks began blasting their version of 'Cotton Eye Joe' And lemme tell you, if you ever want to know what tune is guaranteed to get a bunch of red necks up and dancing, you now have your answer (red necks dancing to Red Nex)
|
41Forever May 08 2018 01:35 PM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
I knew "The Look" and that Roxette had more hits, but couldn't name them. I hunt down '80s compilations for the semi-obscure stuff enjoyed by, maybe, me and three other people. And I don't know if Roxette is on any of them. Will have to check the Swedish import section.
|
Mets Willets Point May 09 2018 02:38 PM Re: Kurt Loder On Location, 2018 |
Red Nex are from Sweden? I mean, all countries have a South but they're a long way from THE South.

I understand the Reens' plan is to continue to perform with a range of singers. They also whacked the new bass player "The Thrilla" and brought back Mesaros again, which I think indicates they're not going to play a whole lot anymore.

I'd love to see Barry grab an old tenor and falsetto singer and take the family act out one more time. I'm thinking Nick Gilder singing Robin's parts and Leo Sayer singer Maurice's.

For a guy who's been out of the limelight for what - 20 years? - his voice is in pretty good shape. But goodness, this is schmaltzy.
