Yearbook Cover Future Derby 2068 vs 2114

I have to question why the Mets felt compelled to place Zerg and X7 on the cover in 2114. Sure, they proved popular, but at the time Zerg's circuits were loose and X7 hadn't yet hit a single phleg in Mets armor. The 50th anniversary tribute to the 2018 championship is all askew. I appreciate the commemorative patch, but it was salt and pepper, not Assault & Paprika. Maybe someday the Mets will get their history in order. I'm still deciding on who to vote for. Gonna be tough for either to beat the floating Baby Met from 2062.

It looks like somebody is going through Yearbook Cover Derby withdrawal during this week-long hiatus. Too bad you don't have the images for those two covers. Fortunately, I do have the cover of the 2093 yearbook. It nicely commemorates the 100th anniversary of the much-loved 1993 cover:

It looks like somebody is going through Yearbook Cover Derby withdrawal during this week-long hiatus. Too bad you don't have the images for those two covers. Fortunately, I do have the cover of the 2093 yearbook. It nicely commemorates the 100th anniversary of the much-loved 1993 cover: Interesting fact: "Mercury Mets" originally started out as sort of a gag, but wound up prescient, as we know from the way the 2043 Mets split their schedule between planets.

Braves already at this point have claimed the moon. Despite the moon being uninhabited, they team still draws more than they did in Atlanta.

Wow. The Willard Mullin 1969 World Series program cover is so justifiably famous, I never realized that I was unfamiliar with the program cover from the 1969 NLCS. This is the one that the Mets used. It's an odd choice. Funny how the Braves went futuristic while the Mets went retro.

The old-timey element was a nod to 1869, as MLB was celebrating its centennial anniversary.

And here's the NLCS cover from 1973: I loved this cover, particularly the featured "visit to the mound" image because it was so devoid of bullshit and conveyed a message that the only reason they got here was because of hard decisions and helping one another out and shit. Modern covers want you think they way they do this is because the players have fierce individual personalities highlighted by the way they wear their socks and hair.

Cheapass Wilpons couldn't even design a special cover for the 1969 NLCS! (Maybe they knew there would only be one game at Shea.)

The '73 NLCS cover is the '73 regular-season cover, except with an orange background. It was green during the summer. Recalling '86 and '88 in that vein, too. Mets programs for the NLDS have been team-produced and variations on what's been sold all year. It gets MLBized in the NLCS.

Strange to see Cleon Jones joining a mound conference. He made 15 appearances at first in 1969 and 20 more in 1972 and that was it.

I went to a few regular season games at Shea that year, and surely got at least one scorecard. But I knew I didn't go to any post-season games in 1973. I eventually got a copy of the Yogi Berra World Series program as a back issue. Meanwhile, I see three different 2015 World Series covers. One that features the Mets, one the features the Royals, and one that shows both teams. Maybe the Mets version and the Royals version was the one you'd get at the ballpark, but the mixed version was for collectors who ordered online?

Much like SI does regional covers, I guess MLB does the same for this occasion. Come to think of it, they produce a different All-Star program cover for each team for their own ballpark sales and what have you. Seems like pandering.

At Union Grounds in Cincinnati. IIRC the place only held about 4,000 people. It didn't look anything like that 1969 Championship Series cover. Since this thread is about traveling through time and space, there is no truth to the rumor that I was there. Or is there? Later
