IGT 5/13/18 Sunday Will Never be the Same

Nothing is guaranteed, but we're going up against those dang Phils with Jacob deGrom. And Jacob deGrom is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA. Moreover, for his career, he's 19-8 / 1.97 with 283 strikeouts in 260 innings during the day. That's the equivalent of a Cy Young-winning season, from Orel Hershiser or Greg Maddux or somebody. Over a career.

Nothing is guaranteed, and yeah, this ballpark cheats, but I like that we got him going. I do!

Re: IGT 5/13/18 Sunday Will Never be the Same

Baumann is returned to AAA even though he would be more likely to be used today than Vargas. Since Vargas is being "skipped" in the rotation (skipping is fun so it's such a nice way of saying "ignored due to a failure to perform at a major league level") and there are two days off this week, can't they find some reason to put him on the 10-day DL?

Almost forgot Jake had to be activated. And he was, at the expense of not yet an official Met Buddy Baumann.

Ah revoir, No. 77. We'll hardly know ye until Mrs. Blevins is reporting contractions.

Really not a bad idea. Let him hang around and throw simulated games under the watchful eye of the brain trust -- or the watchful brain of the eye trust.

Is Baumann a "Phantom" Met? Did he ever get put on the 25? Or did his suspension prevent that?

He was on the roster but suspended Friday night. He was active for a game that never started Saturday. If he never returns, he probably rates his own category.

It would actually bother me into Mets eternity if he doesn't come back and pitch. Never seems right when a Met is so close to happening yet never happens.

He threw 44 pitches in the first. They're being prudent.

Even if I was committed to pulling deGrom, I'm not sure I'd burn a bench player there. deGrom can give you a good at-bat.

On the other hand, maybe they don't want him swinging the bat anyhow.

Mesoraco with the frisky little athletic 2-6-4 DP.

No, they pushed him back because he got loose yesterday and they decided to treat it as an outing.

Meanwhilst, Mets take the lead on a kapowie by Céspedes.

So just as Cespedes was teeing off, I was in the midst of composing a post pointing out that the Mets offense had scored in just 3 of the previous 37 innings, a streak which began right after they had
scored in opening five frames of the first game in Cincy. But after putting up a goose egg in the final four innings of that one, they've scored in just one inning in each of the next three, now four, games:
- a 2-spot in the 6th inning of our 7-2 loss in Cincy
- a single run in the 3rd of the Wednesday afternoon 2-1 10th inning loss
- and then the 3 runs via the Conforto and Mesaroco HRs in the 9th of Friday's game.
- and now, so far anyway, once in six frames here so now it's 4 non-zeros half-innings out of 38

The Mets "future stars" come up back to back: strikeout and groundout. The Mets really know how to develop hitters! One will be back in the minors very soon and the other should be in the minors.

So now we have a pitching change which didn't work to go along with the non move that didn't work.
Tack that on to the 3 DPs plus the caught-stealing erasing four of our many baserunners and this one isn't looking like it's going to end well.

Zero input from SS again. The "Future Star" is worthless right now and should be in the minors. Another overhyped Mets prospect.

G. Torres and Acuna: stars from day one. The most Dom Smith has accomplished is losing 7 pounds and learning about punctuality.

A little early to give up on a 22 year old that the org has held in high regard for years, but I am all for sending him down.

Re: IGT 5/13/18 Sunday Will Never be the Same

Only 2 teams in MLB have scored fewer runs than the Mets this year. There are several teams that are actively tanking, seven teams are on pace to lose 100 games. Five of those teams are scoring more runs than the Mets.

This is what happens when you fail to upgrade a bad offense during the winter.

JD Martinez is the guy we needed. Instead, he went to Boston after sitting available all winter. He’s crushing it, of course. .337 AVG, 9 HR. .988 OPS. The Red Sox are in first place and playing .700 baseball.

There's no way they'll try another desperation Hail Mary like taking a flyer on someone like Michael Cuddyer, a 35 year old coming off major back surgery and a missed season because that's a small market move that almost never pans out and we're the Mets of New York fucking City!

Yes, the problem being that there's no true shortstop to bring up. If you look at the 51's roster, there's no shortstop listed. Cecchini is more of a 2B (and he's hurt anyway}. And you can't run Reyes out there. He needs to be released instead.

Forgot about BatMan Guillorme. Cespedes is going to play until the season starts slipping away, though. Callaway is desperate for offense.

Flores, I love him, but he's no third baseman. A-Gon saves him a lot of errors that Bruce wouldn't.
