TWiB Notes -- Week of May 14-20

Red Sox reliever Carson Smith has been put on the DL due to a shoulder injury sustained while he threw his glove in the dugout following a surrendered HR.
Reminiscent of Dwight injuring his toe after kicking the dugout steps during the Tuffy Rhodes games.

I remember Zachry breaking his toe kicking the dugout wall.

Rangers call up lefty Brandon Mann after 17 years in the minors.

If you had to pick one current ML pitcher who was best prepared to take a line-drive come-backer in the belly -- and then both get the out and stay in the game -- is there really any other choice?

Me too. He'd easily be our #3 starter right now, sadly. (Sigh.)

He was Brandon Boyy when he was drafted.

It's the extra Y that shows the sort of professional polish I've come to expect from Hahnnie. Good work.

That's what earned it the rim-shot.

The Rays tabbed Sergio Romo for the first ever start of his 11 year/589 appearances ML career yesterday (Sat). And the experiment worked so well that they're planning to do it again ... Today!
Now of course he only threw one inning/18 pitches in this new reliever then starter experiment Tampa is using, but that 1st start one day/next start the next day thing has got to be a first, and I'm
thinking that the last pitcher to start back-to-back games might be Wilbur Wood?

Today's game is a 4:00 start, in Anaheim, vs Ohtani

I don't know whether to scream Muthafuckin' Braves! or Muthafuckin' Marlins!

Miami was up, at various times today, 6-0, then later 8-2, then 9-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th ... and you can probably guess where this is headed.
Braves score six in the 9th to walk-off the win, including five times after two were out.

Swanson - K
Flaherty - Walk
Albies - Single
Acuna - Sac Fly
Freeman - infield single, run scores on error
Markakis - RBI Single
Flowers - Walk
Suzuki - RBI Single
Camargo - Walk
Swanson - 2 RBI double .. Please Arrive Home Safely

On the other hand, the Nats got smoked in the late innings 7-2 as the Dodgers complete the three-game sweep.
