Harvey.

I'm shocked (and happily surprised) at how quickly the Mets pulled the trigger on this. It's a damn shame it came to this, but seems at every angle the right move.

I hope he turns his life around. Really.

He may end up in the Mets minors yet.

Big opportunities for the local papers to clinch the 2018 Tabloid Cover Challenge tomorrow morning.

The Mets had no alternative after he declined an assignment to the minors. But why? Did Boras tell him that he'll be picked up by another team and in the rotation within a week? He's on the verge of free agency so perhaps this would have been a good time to be a good soldier and pitch in the minors for awhile.

Turn his life around? Harvey's trajectory is appearing on a reality TV show with D list celebs like Tia Tequila and then trying to score a date with a Kardashian.

It's the best thing for him, really. A guaranteed start every five days. Where's he gonna get that now? He's so stupid and egotistical. Plus, him and Tebow can start an Up with People tribute band.

First time in years that the team went with a baseball decision which ignored the financial end.

A Boy Named Seo May 04 2018 08:37 PM Re: DFA |
DiComo is tweeting his ass off right now. He said Mickey wanted Harv to rebuild himself in the minors like Cliff Lee and Roy Halliday but Harv refused. Sandy pretty sure someone will take a shot on Harvey and a trade will get worked out.
|
Edgy MD May 04 2018 08:39 PM Re: DFA |
Daily News reporting that (1) this came after Hatt Marvey refused a minor league assignment and (2) that Sandy Alderson described it as "the end of an era," which doesn't suggest they're expecting him to reconsider the minor league idea if he goes through waivers.

A Boy Named Seo May 04 2018 09:20 PM Re: DFA |
What's Matt Harvey worth, I wonder? Depends if there is any kind of market and I would bet there is more than 1 team interested. I bet we get a high-ceiling, but super raw 19-year old long shot, or like a 25-year old AA player who probably already shoulda made it.
|
Benjamin Grimm May 04 2018 09:46 PM Re: DFA |
I doubt that a trade will be made. Whoever trades for Harvey will owe him something like $5 million. I expect teams would rather wait until he's released outright and then they can pay him the major-league minimum.
|
A Boy Named Seo May 04 2018 10:06 PM Re: DFA |
Yeah, you're prob right, although my heart tells me the Rangers try to get him. Maybe they don't wanna bid against 5 teams looking to sign him at the minimum and are willing to make a small trade. Sad that the Matt Harvey era ends with me hoping we can land an afterthought PTBNL type guy for him.
|
Ashie62 May 04 2018 10:08 PM Re: DFA |
The Mets gave Harvey all the rope he could have wanted to get it together.
|
Benjamin Grimm May 04 2018 10:14 PM Re: DFA |

I suppose a trade can happen if the Mets agree to pay a big chunk of the remaining salary. And why shouldn't they? They're going to have to eat it anyway so they might as well get something in return.
|
smg58 May 04 2018 10:22 PM Re: DFA |
Not the way I foresaw his Mets tenure ending some three years or so ago. I wouldn't have foreseen completely agreeing that it had to be done, either.

Boras on why Harvey refused a minor league assignment:
Wanting to see how he does?! What assholes, those Mets! linky ---> https://nypost.com/2018/05/04/scott-bor ... s-request/
|
smg58 May 04 2018 10:36 PM Re: DFA |
The Mets did the right move, but most people wouldn't accept a demotion if there is any chance that one of the remaining 29 teams will take a flier on them at the big league level.

The Mets are right. And Boras is right. it is no longer in either party's best interest for Harvey to be a Met

Fman99 May 05 2018 01:07 AM Re: DFA |
Steve Traschel came down to AAA and fixed it. I watched him throw a seven inning no hitter here in Syracuse. Good riddance to Harv, he doesn't want to fix it for this franchise, then hit the bricks.

MFS62 May 05 2018 01:46 AM Re: DFA |

He didn't want to try to fix his problems in the minors. His ego is the only thing he has that is larger than his ERA. Bye! Later

Yeah, Splat Harvey cover could go far this year.

Edgy MD May 05 2018 12:54 PM Re: DFA |
There's something to be said for dumping your underperforming malcontent while you're winning. The Mets released George Foster in the midst of a three game sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley, including a doubleheader sweep.

Centerfield May 05 2018 01:25 PM Re: DFA |
Torn on this. I believe that Matt Harvey will one day find himself again and be a productive major league pitcher. And because of the how little we know about TOS it might have happened for him this year.
