PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies acquired the left-handed-hitting outfielder they had been searching for late Saturday night, netting Dave Dellucci and cash from the Rangers for pitcher Robinson Tejeda and outfielder Jake Blalock.

Philadelphia will have to make a roster move once Dellucci arrives, which the team hopes will be sometime on Sunday. The Phillies expect him in town by Monday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.

Dellucci, 32, spent the past two seasons with Texas, recording career highs in homers (29), games played (128), RBIs (65) and hits (109) in 2005. He was set to be the Rangers' starting left fielder this season. Dellucci offers the Phillies a lefty power option off the bench who can play all three outfield positions.

The teams had been discussing a swap for the past week, but the Rangers' interest in pitching intensified because of Adam Eaton's finger injury. Philadelphia optioned Tejeda to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

This move doesn't bode well for Chris Coste, who came close to securing the final roster spot by hitting .463 in the spring, or for Tomas Perez, who appeared to beat out Coste. One of them could be on the Opening Day roster if David Bell starts the season on the disabled list.

Jake Blaylock is an ass.

I really want that "ass" comment to be part of the article, but I'm sure it's not.

Nah... It would be funny if it were. But I went to two different Blueclaws games and asked him to auto my Jake Blalock rookie card... The first game, he completely ignored me. The second one, he said sure, and then never came over. When I called him over again, he didn't even turn towards me. No Single-A player should have an ego that large.

Tejeda pitched against the Mets three times last year. He was 0-1, with the Phillies going 1-1 in his two no decisions. 2.81 ERA over 16 IP with 10 K's. Nice pickup by Texas for a player that didn't really have much of a role with them this year.

If you trade two guys for one, why do you then have to make a roster move?
