Okay, so since I can't create my alter ego Rotgutt without admin approval, I'm just going to PRETEND to be him.

So then, do the rest of us vote?
|
Rotblatt Mar 27 2006 05:24 PM |
Not yet. I'm trying to do that cool Edgy formatting thing.

Rotblatt just called Rotblatt a douchebag.

George Carlin would point out that douchebag is used only for describing females while scumbag is used for males.

Remember: for the first matchup, vote for the song you like BEST. For the second, vote for the song you like LEAST.

wow, but it's hard to find this song.
|
Edgy DC Mar 27 2006 05:40 PM |
I like "Whip It" most.
|
cooby Mar 27 2006 05:43 PM |
I like "Judy in Disguise" most, and not very much at that.
|
Rotblatt Mar 27 2006 05:45 PM |
"Whip It" wins best.

"Judy In Disguise" vs. "Whip It" "Judy In Disguise"
|

So normally, we'd get at least 24 hours, but since this is just a sample, I'm calling the contest now.
|

Now I'm really confused.
|
cooby Mar 28 2006 12:45 PM |
I used to get "Judy in Disguise" and "Lucy in the Skys" mixed up when I was little

Because, if I understand correctly, the goal is to find the one-hitleiest of the one-hit wonders, and rank everybody behind them, not by their overall quality, but by their one-hitliness.

Like Edgy says, the Aristotelean ideal of a One-Hit Wonder is a band with only one good hit, surrounded by a bunch of crappy songs. The first challenge is to determine which band has a bigger hit. In this case, they were equal. The second challenge is to determine which band's next-best song is WORSE, thus proving that they are, in fact, a one-hit wonder and not, say, a two-hit wonder. Or the Beatles. So in this case, while Devo and John Fred's hits were deemed equal, Devo's second-best song, Satisfaction, was better than John Fred's, meaning that John Fred has a better claim to being a one-hit wonder than Devo. Does that make sense, or is it still unclear?

I understand better, but it'd be easy to stack the deck with a real shitty song by another group:

Well, it would if the the challenger didn't get to pick the counter song. So if I'm the sponsor of Norman Greenbaum and I'm challenging the Beatles, I get to pick whatever Beatle song I want for the counter matchup--and it's not going to be Revolution Number 9. The sponsor of the Beatles then picks the Greenbaum counter song.
|
RealityChuck Mar 28 2006 04:23 PM |
OK, but what happens when it Norman Greenbaum vs. John Fred and his Playboy Band? No one's ever heard the second choice, so no one can really make a decision.

sharpie Mar 28 2006 04:30 PM |
I've heard "Canned Ham"
|
Rotblatt Mar 28 2006 05:15 PM |

Yeah, that's true. I was thinking that they'd cancel each other out, so if you haven't heard either song, you'd vote tie. . . If, on the other hand, you've heard one song, but not the other, I don't know what you'd do--I suppose vote the song you knew, unless you absolutely hated it.

I guess I'll just take your glasses.
