BAZOOKA ANNOUNCES BIGGEST NEWS SINCE LAUNCHING AMERICA’S BUBBLE GUM IN 1947

After more than 50 years of being the classic bubble gum brand,
Bazooka blows away the competition with
a new look, a new formulation and a new commitment
to giving today’s kids what they want in bubble gum fun.

NEW YORK, NY—The Topps Company, Inc., makers of Bazooka Bubble Gum, announce the re-launch of the heritage Bazooka brand, featuring a new product formulation, innovative Bazooka bubble gum items and kid-grabbing graphics. Since 1947 Bazooka Bubble Gum has been an American icon, known for its signature square shape, Bazooka Joe comics and “Get Cool Stuff” consumer premium offers. Today, The Topps Company debuts an all-new Bazooka—one that maintains the recognized heritage elements of the brand while delivering on kid-preferred platforms, such as bigger bubbles.

“Research showed us that a whole generation of kids was missing out on the fun and entertainment that is synonymous with the Bazooka brand,” states Paul Cherrie, managing director of The Topps Company. “Kids today want a softer chew, they want long-lasting flavor and most of all they want to blow whopper bubbles. The all-new Bazooka delivers big time on all these fronts. And based on research findings, the new Bazooka does it better than the competition.”

Debuting in stores across the country beginning this spring, the all-new Bazooka Bubble Gum line includes:

• Bazooka Bubble Gum Twist Wrap Pieces: individually twist-wrapped Bazooka Bubble Gum in the new softer chew, longer-lasting flavor formulation, available in 300 count tubs, 120 piece boxes, 70 and 150 piece lay down bags, 3 lb. “Big Mix” bag and Sugarless Bazooka “Party Box.” Two all-new taste-sensations make their debut in ’06 as well: Cotton Candy & Watermelon!

• Bazooka Bubble Gum Gumballs: featuring five kid-favored flavors including Original, Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, Watermelon and Grape

• Bazooka Bubble Gum Filled Pops: choose from four fruit-flavored lollipops—Orange, Cherry, Grape or Green Apple—filled with a Bazooka Bubble Gum center

• All-New Comics Featuring the New Bazooka Joe Gang: Bazooka Joe and his gang are updated for a new generation of kids and will star in all-new Bazooka comics inside each individually wrapped piece of Bazooka Bubble Gum!

• New Collectible Bazooka Premiums: now kids can “Get All-New Cool Stuff” when they redeem their collected comics. New items include fun spy gear like recording pens and binoculars, Bazooka t-shirts, watches, gumball machines and baseball caps.

Bazooka Bubble Gum was first introduced in 1947, with Bazooka Joe making his debut 1953. Named after the quirky musical instrument comedian Bob Burns fashioned from two gas pipes and a funnel, Bazooka dominated the bubble gum category throughout the 1960s and has become an iconographic American brand. Since its introduction nearly 30 billion pieces of Bazooka have been sold and Bazooka is ranked number one (84%) in Total Brand Awareness (Bubble Gum Incidence Study, October 2004) in the bubble gum category. A psychological study of tastes and smells that bring back memories found that one of the most frequently identified items was Bazooka Bubble Gum. Today, Bazooka is one of the many top-quality, sought-after confectionery brands of The Topps Company, Inc. This isn't the first time they "updated" Bazooka Joe and his gang. I remember a similar update maybe ten or fifteen years ago.

The only "cool stuff" I ever got from collecting the comics and trading them in was an umpire's ball/strike/out clicker that we thought would add an air of authenticity to our backyard whiffle ball games.

I was cleaning some stuff out recently and found it. Still in perfect working order.
