Caleb Smith is one of those lefties that we would've stacked a bunch of righthanders against, but Wright, Rivera, Céspedes, Frazier, d'Arnaud, Plawecki, and Lagares ain't cooperatin'.

Go, healthy guys!

Righties, schmighties. The Marlins suck. Let's continue to make them remember that.

For the second straight game, the pitching matchup will favor the Marlins. Last night, we got lucky with Vargas. Maybe we get lucky tonight.

In his first start of the year, Zack pitched 7 innings and allowed 1 run against the Marlins. Maybe he can do that again.

We've got to beat the Marlins like 17 of 19 this year if we want any chance at this thing. Go get 'em, fellas.

I'd rather feel (hope) that last night was the serviceable 4th or 5th starter we
signed up for and he's found himself. We're on the hook for $6, $8 and then
possibly $8 again (but at least $2) million on the guy. He really shouldn't be
sucking as bad as he was?

Anyway, windy and showers this evening in Corona but they should get it in.

And why did Rosario not make the effort Cabrera made to at least try and knock it down?

Just tuning in...is Bruce out of the lineup just because it’s a lefty and Bautista got to the park in time, or did something else happen?

Re: IGT 05/22 - Marlins at Mets - Weekday .500 [5]

That is the likely reason.

They finally smartened up and are not sitting Nimmo.

Unleash the Bautista!

Nice job by Wheeler. Matz would have fallen apart after Reyes' 1st error but Wheeler stayed with it, overcame the 2d error, and looked good.

Utterly predictable, sadly. We can’t be expected to win games with Nido, Flores, and Reyes as regulars.

Re: IGT 05/22 - Marlins at Mets - Weekday .500 [5]

- Until the Dietrich HR off Ramos, I really thought this was one of those games we were going to pull out in the end.

- Wheeler pitched well, the only problem being that the one inning where he got himself into trouble (couple of hard hits on top of a couple of loud outs) was the same inning where he also had shit
luck (error plus a couple of seeing-eye hits). He could have survived one or the other but not both.

- They're making too many mediocre pitchers look like Grover Jason Alexander. Every young and/or journeyman pitcher is seemingly having their best day of the season at CitiField

- Y'know who'd be a good replacement for Reyes? ... TJ Rivera

THoUgHTs ON tHe GamE!

That first pitch swinging Nido DP. What a bonerkill.

Mets were dead, crowd was dead, damp and a little too chilly. We were basically thanking Bruce for first-pitch half-assing it in the 9th to get us out of there.

Joey Bats doesn't appear to be the world's best outfielder.

Starting to get a little worried over how hard they're leaning on Gsellman. He worked very hard last night.

This may be unpopular but Reyes IMO still hasn't had the number of PAs you'd like to see before pulling the rug on a guy. I mean, its getting close, but he deserves 100 PAs. Not a good third baseman.

Frazier and David Wright are really screwing us over

We were there Sunday. Even with great weather and Syndergaard on the mound, the crowd was dead for most of the game. 1-0 felt nearly insurmountable. The fact of the matter is that the Mets just don't have enough offense. There is no point in the lineup where you look at the 3 due up and think "Ok, we're set up to score next inning".

His final line will be 6 innings, and because of that error, 1 ER. But this is the worst offense in baseball. Gotta get out of that inning.

Miami has the 28th best ERA in MLB. They have held the Mets to 3 runs over 2 games in this series.

I think so too. If he were performing at his career .780 OPS, he'd be 4th on this team behind Cabrera, Nimmo and Cespedes.

Well, again, his biggest problem wasn't his inability to get out of that inning, it was his complicity in setting it up in the first place.
But I'll at least take some solace (but not Salas) in the fact that after he gave up probably the four hardest hits all night [Double - Single - Single - Lineout] that, rather than fall apart, he did everything to limit the damage but got shit luck:
- first came the bunt disaster which combined a bad decision with a bad throw with a clanked catch (the throw, though low, did hit Cabrera in the glove and the 'E' really could have gone either way)
- he followed that with a Pop-out and then the killer was the 2-RBI 86-hopper under two gloves
- and then, when the game really had a chance to be blown wide open, he K'd Bour to end the inning.

Re: IGT 05/22 - Marlins at Mets - Weekday .500 [5]

I thought that error was going to go to Cabrera.

I actually watched the inning thinking that was Flores covering. If that was a firstbaseman covering, the E might have gone to him, but considering the guy receiving the throw had to hustle over from second base and then reshuffle his feet to receive the throw, I understand why Reyes got it.
