Jose Quintana, Southsider-turned-Northsider, takes the hill for the Cubbies. Fgirl, watching the game with me last night, sees the promo for the Conforto jersey: "Dad, that's Michael Conforto!" Me: "Yep." Fgirl: "I recognized him even before they said who it was." Me: "Is that because you think he's cute?" Fgirl: "He's OK I guess." Me: "Why, who's the cutest Met then?" Fgirl: "Mr. Met, duh." She is still mad that deGrom cut his hair. She has not found a new favorite since then from the current roster.

It's the last day of May, and as things stand right now, going into the final game of the month, there's a very tight race for Schaefer Player of the Month. The players in first and second place, based on votes cast thus far, are separated by only 0.41 points. If Gary Cohen mentions this on tonight's broadcast, we'll know for a fact that he reads this forum.

The way pitching is 'done" in MLB is horrid. Horrid in the sense that, for me, the entertainment value of 2018 baseball is piss poor. Analytics blow chunks. 13 friggin pitchers rosters 5-6 pitchers per team per game 4 hour games Yeesh, it is supposed to be fun fun fun til daddy takes the t-Bird away Lets go Mets!

1. Play Nimmo everyday 2. Have faith that Noah, Jake etal will as a group will be ok 3. We are not as bad as we look now, or as good as we looked earlier 4. Be hopeful Ces plays more games than not 5. Most teams in the NL are just not very good, so there is that.

So if the plan was for Lugo to only go 4 innings, then you have to have someone ready to step in and pitch multiple innings to follow. That someone can’t be Hansel Robles. Leadoff walk. A 2 run HR. So predictable. You look at the arms in that Cub bullpen and it’s disheartening. We are not on the same planet as these guys. And we get Wheeler tomorrow. It never ends.

Well, Robles did pitch three scoreless innings the other day, so a scoreless inning from him isn't nearly as impossible as you suggest. And I'd hardly say that we're exclusively seeing the same people come and go from the bullpen. There's been a long string of unfamiliar names appearing in relief for the Mets recently.

I don't particularly have a concern for the bullpen. Pulling a pitcher after four innings when he's throwing a shutout against the second-best-hitting team in the league and replacing him with a succession of pitchers from the back end of your staff is a losing strategy all day, every day. As is insisting on hitting into the shift, and not telling Rosario a strike when you're down four in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, and the tying run is on deck.
