What? How did he do that?

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

The Reds are going nowhere and they got this starter who has an ERA of 3.72 and a 1.241 WHIP.

Now that Plawecki is back, see if they'll take Tomas Nido for him.

I just checked with Dr. Internet. He says strained finger ligaments are 3-6 weeks.

Dr. Spaceman, the Mets' team doctor, says he'll back next week. Or in 2020. "It's just so hard to tell."

It was thought Plawecki would disappear forever into the cornfield and he came back with a bang. Perhaps there's a best-case as opposed to a Mets-case scenario where Thor is concerned.

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

James Wagner of Times suggests this is precautionary: splint for now, bullpen session this weekend, perhaps back as soon as eligible to take on Orioles.

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

Vargas reported likely to go on short rest Wednesday since he went only three innings in sucking in his last start.

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

Vargas on short rest can't be worse than Vargas on regular rest.

I can only guess that nobody that works for the Mets is an actual Mets fan.

Because if I assembled a billion Mets fans in a room, not a single one of them would say "Hey I know, let's start Vargas on short rest."

At least a hundred of those fans would volunteer to pitch themselves. 5 or 6 might suggest a tee. Both of those options would get more votes than short-rest Vargas.

I would volunteer my 88 year old mother over several mets

Maybe Vargas can try pitching right handed.

If he's good, it's a revelation.

If he's bad, it couldn't be much worse.

Stranger things have happened than a struggling pitcher being jolted
a little to the better side with an unexpected change in plans/routine.

That all I got on #srvargas

Heal fast and thoroughly, Noah!

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

We need some length out of Matz tonight to give the pen a break. That's Matz of the 4.7 average innings per start this season, and no more than six in any outing.

50% chance of rain in Atlanta tonight. Trying not to strain a ligament keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for a nice steady downpour.

By definition of "replacement player", we should be able to grab some guy off the waiver wire to take Syndergaard's roster spot and put him on the mound Wednesday if all else fails, though I think that means DFAing someone currently on the 40-man (Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose...Jose, Jose).

The Tee would likely create more drag against the ball leaving the park!

Conversation at the dinner table:

Me: Did you hear that Syndergaard was put on the DL?
OlderlittleDGW: What happened, did he lose an eye?

I'll take Vargas over random Met fan. Nothing scientific, just a hunch.

I guess this helps explain why he was pulled after 78 pitches his last turn.

Only that he will be throwing batting practice one day sooner.

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

on the glass half-full side: maybe this is a bullshit DL trip that wouldn't have happened under the old "15 day" rule but the Mets are now being cautious about even minor pitcher injuries, at least to the important guys.

So what exactly were these guys doing with their fingers during their off days?

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

James Wagner of Times suggests this is precautionary: splint for now,

Make that splint out of an emery board.
It solves two problems and gets him back in action right away.
And we'l be amazed at the movement on his pitches, I tells ya'.

Re: Sydergaard to DL, oh just kill me

We heard: it's just precautionary, he could have pitched through it;
he could go Tuesday (Orioles) but to be safe they'll wait for Sunday;
he's on track for Sunday; and,
he's ready to go on Sunday.

And now: it's Seth Lugo vs. the MFYs on Sunday Night Baseball.

nah, it's just bodies are stupid and don't always heal the way you expect them to heal. And sometimes things that seem minor have a lurking underlying cause that's more sever, which is what we're hoping to avoid here. Hoping it's just strained and healing slowly and not some insidious nerve damage.

I guess. It just seems like nothing can just go right
