Roessle Mania

In addition to trainers, hitting coaches is another place where the Mets made a change that may not have been really a change, cashiering Kevin Long, but replacing him with his immediate underling, Assistant Batting Coach Pat Roessler.

Roessler may be the second coming of Charley Lau, for all I know, but the results so far utterly say otherwise, and are trending in the wrong direction.

I'd be surprised to see a change, but I [bigpurple:2fuz3whx]H8[/bigpurple:2fuz3whx] their approach right now. It's like Brandon Nimmo and otherwise, a team full of Reyeses. And I mean Reyes at his most strike zone-illiterate.

The idea that they won't take what they're given, be it the bunt, the walk, the wide open opposite field, the hit-and-run and any other strategy to stay out of the double play, is morbidly depressing.

Hitting is too hard, and that's giving so much away. You can pitch Jay Bruce up and away all season at this rate, and he'll set a record for flying out to center.

I don't see how the disconnect has settled in so institutionally. This team claims to care about OBP and not making outs, but they marginalize the guys who take that philosophy seriously, stick with guys who don't, and recruit outmakers, and it's hardly surprising that a very different philosophy has taken root.

I'm ready for a team that is Young and Roesslerless, but I think (or, at least, I fear) the issues go deeper.

Yeah Roessler is also uselessly taking No. 6 out of circulation, I'd fire his ass immediately just to make a show, but the players all speak highly of him, or they did last year. Perhaps its HIS assistant who blows chunks

Yes. And he has quotes like "you can't make Jay Bruce an opposite field hitter" or something like that.

Why not?

Because it would cause him to slump? Sap his HR power? I got some bad news for you...

Someone's got to pay the price for this shitshow, and the hitting (or lack thereof) is a major component of the problem. See ya.

Frankly, I'm shocked there wasn't a Roessler thread already. When the hitting is anemic all around, all eyes turn toward the guy in charge of hitting. There's absolutely no excuse for this.

Roessler is either a poor ewxcuse for a hitting instructor or his pupils are lacking in talent and ability. I suspect it is a combination of the two.

I am inclined to listen to the eye doctor when the discussion turns to pupils.

There may be other factors too. I suspect that Bruce's back did not just start bothering him yesterday.

On the other hand, I was under the impression this time last year that Amed Rosario and Ozhaino Albies had similar skill sets. And Rosario was a better hitter in the minors.

Re: Roessle Mania

I hope last night was a sign that some semblance of offense is about to emerge, but recently this team couldn't score at the Chicken Ranch with a fist full of Fifties.
When things like this go on for an extended period of time, its usually the hitting coach who gets the hit.
