Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

Me too I like an occasional peanut butter cup but not very often. Folks around here act as though homemade peanut butter eggs at Easter are God’s own manna from heaven and can’t understand when I politely decline

Had this conversation with my grandson at lunch and thought I’d put it up to a vote :)

I buy PB regularly, but it's 100% for my dog.

Same here. I like it a lot, though I rarely have it and never buy a jar-- it's never In the house.

I'm a fan of the "what is there to eat...oh yeah, peanut butter!" variety.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

I voted yes. I do like peanut butter, though it may be a bit of an exaggeration to call myself a "peanut butter person". I sometimes steal a spoonful of peanut butter from the jar as a quick snack, but I never eat it on a sandwich. I've always thought that peanut butter, combined with jelly, is an awful combination. (I'm sure there are many who disagree.) Peanut butter with Marshmallow Fluff, however, is pretty tasty! It's probably been more than twenty years since my last fluffernutter. I remember, I guess it was around 1989, I brought bread, peanut butter, and Fluff to work so that my co-workers could make their own fluffernutters and everyone was more excited about it than I could have imagined.

I like Nutella a lot more than I do peanut butter. I don't eat it often, but I can be quite tempted when I see a banana-Nutella crepe on a restaurant menu. And I think it's the best thing to put on a croissant. This generally applies to hotel breakfast buffets when I'm in Europe, and Pop Tarts are unavailable.

Nutella is an affront to chocolate. It should be banned world wide for this crime, right up there with 'carob'.

You're offended by mixing chocolate with hazelnuts, yet you put peanut butter in beer?

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

Love peanut butter and PB&J.
But I also like another combination. I figured if PB works with jelly and cream cheese works with jelly, why not PB and cream cheese?
I tried it and like it, but you really have to have something to drink with it or it will cement your mouth shut.
Oh, and only creamy PB, don't like the crunchy stuff (or is that another poll?)

I'm offended by the idea of Nutella being used, marketed, suggested as a chocolate replacement, such as in delicious crepes. I'm offended by the idea that Nutella is an improvement. The mixture of hazelnuts and chocolate is fine. Eat some baci balls. They're distinct and separate from say a lindor truffle.

peanut butter beer is merely a weird varietal. no one's passing it off as more than it is.

This is one the one "you're eating/calling food wrong" thing I haven't let go of.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

Also don't eat it as much as I used to, although 'used to' used to mean a lot as dad was a peanut butter addict who thought the stuff was one of the great foods of all time and so us kids got introduced to it early and often.
When I do indulge now it's as a snack, usually smeared on a Ritz cracker (or two or three or four). And if Smuckers All-Natural crunchy isn't your go-to ... well then you're nothing but a communist.

I like peanut butter a lot. With jelly, with bananas, as part of a Reese's peanut butter cup, in cookies.

Marshmallow fluff is disgusting.

Nutella is terrible.

There is nothing better than giving a dog peanut butter and watching him eat it. Hours of fun.

Personally I like it, but I eat it far less than when I was a kid.

LOL!

I have a PB&J for lunch nearly every day. It's my favorite. Crunchy peanut butter and strawberry jam!

I also like peanut butter and honey sandwiches, but you have to eat them right away. They don't travel well at all.

I love peanut butter and Fluff, but I make that a rare treat.

Nutella is awesome on toast, but I haven't used it for a sandwich.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

Most definitely. A sandwich with Skippy was my go-to lunch every day of my student life until college. I grind my own now, and I don't think I've gone two or three consecutive days without eating it ever, unless I'm in some poor benighted country where peanut butter isn't a thing. It's cheap, quick, tasty, and healthy, and it most definitely doesn't look or smell like shit. What's not to love?

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

I love peanut butter-- by it's lonesome or slathered on bananas with honey, injected into chocolate treats or stirred into Filipino stews and fakey-Thai noodle dishes-- but I've put myself off of the stuff via overconsumption, and could easily see myself doing so again. I love peanut butter so much I DON'T eat it (so much).

Just salt. Maybe a little honey if I'm feeling wild. I have a Blendtec blender for which I bought a special jar with manually rotating plastic blades that force the peanuts downward - otherwise, the spinning blades in a high powered blender will force the nuts upward, and they won't grind. Vitamix uses a tamper that I think serves the same purpose, though I've never tried it. I used to have a Cuisinart, which broke, but it did a perfectly fine job if you were willing to let it grind for about five or ten minutes.

If the nuts don't grind, you can add a little bit of peanut oil. That also gives it a smoother texture. But I don't do it.

Now that I'm semi-retired, I have more time and less money, so in general I've been doing much more cooking/grinding/baking from scratch than I used to.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

I enjoy the "natural" style, just peanuts and salt and no other ingredients. I keep it in the fridge so it doesn't separate. I enjoy it mostly on sandwiches, with raspberry or mixed berry jam. Maybe once or twice a month, tops.

The other folks in my house eat the normal, sugary stuff that most Americans enjoy. My kids enjoy PB sandwiches (they prefer no jelly, which seems alien to me). They've also been known to eat it on a spoon right out of the jar. My wife's the biggest PB nut in the house, she eats Wegmans' brand Peanut Butter Sundae flavored ice cream most nights before bed.

Fdad, before me, was also a PB person.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

One of my father's go-to uses for peanut butter was on French Toast.
Soak the bread as usual but then smear one side with PB then cook as usual. IIRC, you started toasting with the PB side face-up first.

Re: Are you a peanut butter person?

I took No, I'll occasionally eat it with an apple. Jelly? Yuck, especially the
Welch's and Smucker's type stuff. I can appreciate a nice preserves, but I
definitely wouldn't taint it with peanut butter.

It's not quite so DIY but most of your foodie-friendly supermarkets today have their own PB grinders, just smash your cup which is how Wifey Bucket acquires most of our PB.

the smell and appearance, but not the horrible taste, tend to get masked when baked with less-offensive ingredients. an innocent looking chocolate chip cookie could really contain Nut Shit
