Get well soon, FK

Please send your best to our buddy Fayed Knot who was hospitalized today with a ticker issue. He would definitely not want this kind of attention, but we need him in the cpf lineup. He's pretty fit irl, so hopefully nothing too serious, but will keep you all updated on his condition.

HELLO I MUST BE STAYING

So basically the story is this:
- for a guy's who's been at or near his proper weight (6' 0" - 175-180-ish) for virtually all his adult life
- and has never smoked and generally consumes eats a reasonably good diet (give myself a 'B'/B-minus at worst, grade on that one)
- is a reasonably light drinker (if it's light out, I drink ... j/k, old drinker's joke) plus exercises at least semi-regularly (some of you know about my biking obsession although that's lessened lately)
- and finally is descendent from a long line of people who lived into their '80s, '90s and even past 100 -- 3 of the grands lived to 92, 92, & 100, and several of their siblings passed the century
mark.

... the floor rushing up to meet my face one morning -- fortunately during working hours where tons of peeps were around to witness it -- was, surprisingly, not just a fainting spell (or even a feinting
spell) but rather a thisclosetofatal heart attack.
So now, after eleven days in the hospital -- during half of which I could have been on Mars for all I knew, even the moments when I was actually conscious -- they've released me to go home although
with a bushel full of pills to take (don't think I've had a prescription medication since maybe grade school) and all kinds of words of cautions and follow-up visits with specialists galore so they can check
in regularly to see what condition my condition is in.

And, yes it did cause me to miss most of the June NYM action although the one I saw in it's totality was the Sunday Night win vs those Bronx morons.
And, while I'm usually the last one to complain about announcers and such, it was kind of cool to beat Luis Severino that night even while he clearly wrapped up CY award ( or so I heard)
Or, as they say in boxing terms. he certainly leads on all cards and needs to be knocked out between now and September to lost the belt.

btw, this condition has apparently also changed me into a semi-moron. I can make typing mistakes as well as anyone but this missive took more over an hour to write because of my apparently newly-
acquired three typos/word pace - and, no, that's not an exaggeration.

Well I had been pretty uninformed to give much actual play by play. I have no memory of the “incident” itself, not much about the time in the hospital, and, until this week, never was told much about the specifics. And between the not remembering and feeling 100% since, it has almost been enough to convince myself that it never really happened. Not that I actually believed that of course but it was getting to the point where I was starting to think that I was perhaps over-selling things a bit with my earlier pronouncement of being “thisclosetofatal”. And now that I’ve had my [crossout]5,000 mile[/crossout] 3-month checkup this week and spoke for the first time (at least coherently) to the cardiologist, it turns out I was definitely … UNDER-selling things.

After coming into the room he immediately asks me whether I remembered him from the first time we met - which I certainly didn’t. “Well, that’s not surprising” he says, “the surprising part is that you and I are even having a second meeting”, before adding, “cuz you were dead when brought in”. And while I was aware that this was all a pretty serious thing — you know the definition of a non-serious heart attack right? … someone else’s — it hadn’t been put to me in quite those stark terms so, needless to say, this was interesting news to begin a Wednesday morning. He went on to say that where the clot lodged — both the specific coronary artery itself, the left descending coronary, aka: 'The Widow-Maker', and also where within that artery, at the very base, like damming a river at its source — is about the best possible spot if you’re looking to bump someone off. He said it basically would have the same effect of clamping the fuel line shut in your car; it would stop the car immediately and "I bet this dropped you right in your tracks”. Well, I can’t say for sure but it would fit the pattern: no prior symptoms, no warning pains, plus the part where I wound up with several stitches in my coconut from the inevitable skull vs floor confrontation (floors remain undefeated during that long-running rivalry) it sounds like that’s exactly what happened. So the point being that the survival rate with these specifics aren’t real high; untreated it's basically a matter of minutes. But between CPR, quick EMT service, and the eventual hospital work — insertion of a stent at the clot site plus some cold therapy “in order to keep your brain from cooking” (always a good thing as I’d hate to survive this whole ordeal just to spend the next five years re-learning the alphabet)— I’m still up and typing.

On the bright side, he said that all that my vitals were quickly back to normal by the next day (even though I’m pretty sure I was still unconscious at this point) leaving no detectable damage to the heart, something mostly likely helped by my (relative) youth and decent physical condition as compared to many heart attack victims (and if that’s not entirely true it’s my story and I’m sticking to it). In other words, I basically went from perfectly healthy, to dead, then back to perfectly healthy again in record time (although I’m not sure that such records actually exist for this sort of thing and, as Jerry S. once noted, who knows how official any of these rankings truly are.) It took a couple of weeks after discharge to get my stamina back to normal but, going forward, the doc has reduced the dosage of one of my meds and said that, while he usually schedules follow-ups every couple of months … “you don’t need it, see you some time next summer”.

So as of now, the only lingering effects of this whole ordeal is a fistful of pills to take each day (blood thinners and such to reduce the chances of this happening again) and also my sister’s insistence that this ‘second chance’ I’ve been given is a sign that I need to start going to church on a regular basis. Of course my sister has long seen most of the actions in my life as a sign that I need to attend church on a regular basis, so ‘twas always been thus.
And so while this might be a rather depressing thread overall, it beats the hell out of a maudlin ‘Memories of FK’ thread in its place (man that guy was such a pain in the ass).

P.S. Would it surprise anyone if it were to be revealed that FMan has an actual story about whale cum on his back?
There was this time at Sea World …
