Fashion Sense for the Senseless

I have a wedding (one of my wonderful psuedo-nieces is marrying a Phillies'
phan/other than that I love them both) next Saturday. The interweb says it's
perfectly fine to wear a black suit to a wedding, especially an evening wed-
ding, but I'm having second thoughts and thinking something more springy
is in order. Anyway, fuck GQ and the other googled links, what say the CPF?

I thought you were only supposed to wear black to a wedding if the bride was marrying a mobster. But it may also apply to Phillies fans.

What? what else would you wear? Aren't 99% of Mets suits black suits?

Dark grey. Navy blue.

Road grey jersey under a blue blazer? I think KB would nix that pretty quick.

Dark grey. Navy blue.

in a dimly lit catering hall, is there a difference between the three of those?

I cannot fathom worrying about whether or not someone will care if the shade of my suit is slightly off. They're lucky if I wear the jacket and/or tie at all.

During summer (and it practically is) I'd say that light gray and/or blue is perfectly acceptable if not preferable.
I don't tend towards black anyway but that's at least partially because I'm about a half-shade darker than typing paper to start with.

One time I had to go to a wedding in DC in August. Bought a seersucker suit for the big day, and I'm pretty sure it saved my life.

I also have a nice light gray suit that is perfect for less sweltering summer occasions.

Wear a suit you'd wear to an important business/ customer meeting (if you have those where you work).
Blue, even with a slight pinstripe, is acceptable.
The flash of color can come from the tie or even the jacket pocket hankie (which my wife tells me is coming back into style).
And, if you're in the wedding party, be sure to shine your shoes. (My best man was late leaving for my wedding and grabbed his everyday shoes. They stood out with their dullness in the wedding pictures.)

Oh, the choice of underwear is still up to you.

Underwear? Who the hell wears underwear these days?

Going with the nice Italian wool black suit ($0).

Shopping later for a springy shirt and tie later with KB. None of the 75 ties
I own we went through met her approval.

Wedding party? Shoes? I'm sporting these:

I used to have lots of ties, but I don't wear them to work so I've gradually pared them down to about a half-dozen, including the Spongebob squarebottom tie Lefty Jr got me ages ago for Father's Day. Can't bear to part with it, even though I've worn it exactly once.

I know, my dressy wardrobe is terribly dated. My business dress code these
days is more like I'm going to play golf.

I own one suit. I've worn it once in the last decade, when I had a funeral to attend last fall. Before that, I hadn't worn it since 2007 when my grandmother died.

I know that pain. Before every "dress up" thing we go to, we spend a lot of time going through my ties (probably as many as you have but I haven't counted them) and she doesn't like any of them, either.
