Cast into obscurity by laws that want them to keep their powers at bay and their existence under wraps, one of the Parrs gets an opportunity from a mysterious, wealthy benefactor who offers them a chance put their super-skillz back to use. The kids are kept in the dark, but is this mystery person on the up and up, or just a full-grown child with an axe to grind? Will the kids and parents and Uncle Frozone be able to join forces in time to save the day and redeem the status of superheroes in the eyes of the government and the mid-century modern society around them?

Isn't this the plot to the original movie?

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

I found it pretty disappointing. The original was one of my favorite Pixar films, and a pretty neat movie from beginning to end. This one not so much.

You're right, a lot of this was the exact same movie as the first, except not nearly as well done. Badly needed an editor as some of the scenes in the middle dragged.

The plot twist is evident from the very beginning, and much of the humor is slapstick and centered around the baby.

Yeah, it was an okay movie, but not nearly as good as the first.

My favorite part was the expression on Jack-Jack's face as his father was reading him a bedtime story. It was perfect, exactly the face I remember on my own kids, as they struggle to listen to the story while simultaneously trying to fight the urge to fall asleep.

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

Here is my Incredibles 2 story:

I took my five year old to see a 10:00AM showing on July 4th. We went early so we could participate in other holiday festivities and family get togethers. We got there at 10:00 sharp. Nothing in the theater happened until 10:10 when the room went dark and the movie started without previews. Except the movie playing was not Incredibles 2, it was the new Jurassic Park which opens with ominous music and dark imagery. Immediately, all of the parents with small children began picking them up and heading for the exits to avoid watching a nightmare inducing scene involving dinosaurs.

After about 2 minutes, the screen froze and remained that way for another minute. Then the screen went black for another couple of minutes and we got a Wreck-It Ralph preview. I figured we were on the right track. After the one preview, the animated short that precedes Incredibles 2 began. Two minutes into the short, the screen froze but the audio kept going. After another two minutes a manger came into the theater, apologized profusely and said they would start again from the beginning of the short.

So, then they started the short again and we got through that. Then the feature started and we got 10 or 15 minutes in when the screen froze again and the audio kept going. At that point, I asked my daughter if she wanted to stay or go and she was ready to go. We walked out to the manager telling us they had cleared out another theater and they were going to start the movie over again if we moved there. By now it was 11:00 and we had other things on the agenda for the day, so we took the free passes they offered us for another day and left.

It looks like we are going to wait to see Incredibles 2 until it comes out on BluRay.

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

The previews were all for animated sequelz: Wreck-It Ralph II, How to Raise Your Dragon II, The Lego Movie II. Using a rehash to promote a pile of rehashes was gloomily foreboding. The standard Pixar animated short feature was ambitious and meaningful and ... disturbing as heck. I'm glad I didn't see it when I was under eight.

The film had the outstanding design you're looking for, great music (possibly better than the first), but centerfield is dead on. My wife was playing with her phone through the middle, and you're a real dullard if the big villain reveal surprised you at all.

No script, no movie. And it's pretty disappointing to have to say that about a Brad Bird-directed Pixar flick. They used to put years into story development before they started filming.

Considering their recent output, John Lasseter's transfer to the parent company, and his subsequent downfall, there's little doubt (in my mind, anyhow) we've seen peak Pixar.

I mean, as a general rule, I have an issue with sequels that pick up immediately after the first one ends. If conflict is immediately presented, then doesn't it take away from the resolution reached at the end of the original?

I don't understand why sequels to super hero movies are so hard to write.

My five minute suggestion:

Movie picks up after super heroes are welcomed back into society. Everyone is happy.

Except that there is an obnoxious Super Hero who is cocky, plays it up for the camera, and is entertaining thoughts of running for office. He's doing so well there are whispers that he is setting up his own crimes to make himself look better. But it's ok and everyone deals.

Until one day Edna goes missing. The family follows clues that lead to mysterious characters, and eventually the villain's lair. Their fears are confirmed and it's apparent that Obnoxious Man is indeed setting up all of his own crimes. The family gets ready to take him down until they finally find Edna. She has transformed her cell into a posh spa, because she's Edna. She tells them that it's not Obnoxious Man, but his unassuming sidekick that has set this all up to eventually take over Obnoxious Man's role. Edna was kidnapped because she happened upon his scheme. Sidekick is carrying out the plan for Obnoxious Man's demise right now. If they hurry, they can stop him.

Edna reveals that she has secretly planted a booby trap in Sidekick's uniform, but to trigger it the family must get close to him in proximity.

Big explosive finale scene where they take down the Sidekick, Obnoxious Man and Mr. Incredible work side by side and bond, and the whole family saves the day. Everyone lives happily ever after.

That's so much better, it's stupid.

Gotta allow the kids a little more initiative too. And an opportunity to be on to the plan before everybody else, but nobody listens to kids.

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

In the final battle, there is a great moment where Mr. Incredible tries to help Obnoxious Man. Obnoxious Man says no thanks old man, I work alone. Mr. Incredible sighs and says "Where have I heard that before?"

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

c'mon guys. the [spoiler alert] bad guy's name was evelyn deavor. how could anyone figure that one out?

wait... evelyn deavor. evel yn deavor. evil endeavor. sonofa.. it was there all along!

it was an enjoyable movie. but i like the cf/edgy version better. definitely an opportunity missed.

the incredibles universe makes no sense right now. where were all these supers lurking about, with their costumes and all that ready to go? i guess the winced endeavor had been gathering them along the way, hoping to put supers back in good favor. but why start with the unknowns instead of the incredibles family? were they just easier to find? so many questions.

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

It was OK, but not up to the standard Brad Bird has set for himself.

In that was, it was like Early Man, where Nick Park did a perfectly good movie, but one that just wasn't up to his best.

Just saw it tonight. I liked it. Had low expectations based on the comments here, but I enjoyed it. More of a focus on the kids.

Re: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

There's yet to be a sequel to an animated movie, of all the ones I've watched, that was even a tenth as good as the first one.

First Shrek movie? Excellent.

First Incredibles movie? Same thing.

Despicable Me? Heartwarming.

All the subsequent rehashes are just big companies cashing big checks. Pass, pass, pass.

Toy Story 2 was a worthy sequel.
