Drafted in the 29th round by the Pirates last year, young prospect Brock said fuck it and returned to school for his senior season. Taken this year in the 10th round by the Tigers, he elected to sign, making his debut yesterday. The prospect's last name? Deatherage! Brock Deatherage. If that isn't enough to make you shit yourself and die, his debut was today in the notoriously power-poor Gulf Coast League, and he hit THREE homers! Yeah, as a four-year college student, he's probably playing under his level, but that's the first three-homer game in the GCL in seven years! In his very first game! His pro debut! Dunno. To these ears, "Deatherage" sounds less like "utterly metal apocalyptic event," and more like "Victorian-era euthanasia facility."
