Frustrated

I'm usually a pretty optimistic, glass half-full kind of guy, but this second seven-game streak has me a little frustrated and asking questions.

Where the hell is Cespedes? How severe is his injury? Cabrera is playing -- and contributing -- while held together with duct tape and the guy we built the offense around is nowhere to be found.

We traded half the team for prospects last season. Are any of these guys close to contributing? We've seen some of them come and go without making much of a good impression.

Who the heck is telling Nimmo that getting hit with the pitch is a great way to get on base? (Or why isn't someone telling him to knock it off?) He can hit, and can hit for power. And he's one of the few guys we have now who can do it. Don't settle for getting on first and risk an injury in the process.

Why are so many players playing out of position?

How come Rosario, universally labeled a top prospect, is so unpolished in the Majors?

Sorry. Just had to get this stuff off my chest.

Re: Frustrated

While taking one off his elbow may indeed be a part of Nimmo's strategy, that crack to his hand seemed to be something he tried to avoid.

No one.

Re: Frustrated

Welcome to Depression Gulch.

The Cespedes thing is mysterious. He's just vanished. But he's so tightly muscled, that pulls and strains are going to be part of his MO for the rest of his career, it seems.

The trades were for a bunch of middle relievers, and while maybe the jury is out on some, there's just not a very high ceiling for that kind of player. The Wilpon aversion to eating salary probably cut the return we could get on some valuable pieces last year.

Nimmo crowds the plate so HBP's are going to happen. It works for him overall, so I'm not going to criticize it.

An unpolished Rosario is an organizational failure, which gets laid at the feet of Sandy Alderson. Dom Smith is another example. I'm worried that Alonso will be another unpolished player at the major league level soon. These guys seem not to focus on the fundies in the minors.

Players playing out of position? That's a grand Mets tradition. Like Mike Piazza at first, Jose Reyes at second, Todd Hundley in left, and on and on. It also gives you a Wilmer Flores, who never really focused on a position in the minors and seems unable to get played consistently at one in the majors.

Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful.

Re: Frustrated

At least we could laugh at the 1962 Mets, happy for the return of National League baseball to New York, and hope for a better future.
I'm not laughing, happy or hopeful.
I'm way past frustrated and moving toward dynamic disinterest.
And I never thought I'd say that about baseball.

Re: Frustrated

Cespedes and Thor are both on my fantasy team. Their updates are depressing. They both get thissss close to starting baseball activities and then get shut down. I’m about to dump them both.

Cespedes now hoping for after all star break. Syndergaard who knows

Re: Frustrated

I'm frustrated that nothing is ever going to change. At least when Doubleday was around there was a counter to the Wilpon way. Now after 15 years of exclusive ownership, we see that there are huge flaws in the organization's thinking. Nothing is going to change. This is our new reality.

Yup. Nothing changes without the owners changing. And the owners aren't changing.

Re: Frustrated

My hope, as I've stated before, is that Jeff decides to cash out and sell the team after Fred dies. I don't know how likely that is, but it's something to hope for.

Re: Frustrated

Hate to break it to you, but Jeff has a son.

My hope is that when Fred goes away Jeff feels less shackled by his dad's dumbass way of looking at the business

Re: Frustrated

Yeah, but Jeff might prefer to have $1 billion for his son than a forever struggling baseball team.

Re: Frustrated

I'm hoping Fred doesn't will the team to Jeff, instead putting ownership in
some kind of generation-skipping trust with some grand kids as beneficiaries
(only the smart ones) inheriting the team. That would be funny.

I think "dynamic disinterest" should be my song-of-the-summer.

I'm living with my mother-in-law, weighing significant career changes, and serving as primary caretaker for a bright, headstrong 8 y/o... and checking in on the Mets is the most debilitating part of my day.
