My son and his fiancee bought me a really cool Fathers Day gift. It's a 1986 book about the history of Michigan's governors. The state's Capitol has portraits of every governor, and when we had some down time I'd enjoy studying them, looking at the little details in the paintings. Now I can learn the back stories!

Thanks! I got a new Fitbit for Fathers' Day (I lost my old one). Then my gift to myself was to spend six hours power washing my deck. Which actually sucked big time.

Re: Happy Father's Day!

Lefty Jr and I have had a tradition- every Father's Day we'd go out in the back yard and have a catch. The tradition persisted long after his Little League days were over; we'd go out in the back and air it out for 15 minutes or so.

Last August he moved down to DC full time and I assumed the tradition was over. So when he showed up unannounced yesterday morning, glove in hand, it was a real Field of Dreams moment. Father's Day presents don't get any better than that.

That’s really neat! Enjoy that!

I love books that get you to learn something :)

Agreed. I may steal that bit. My son and I do still go out and have a catch from time to time.

Doing it once a year made (makes!) it special. Him being a teenager interested in other things then being away at school meant it wasn't going to happen often, but we always had an appointment once a year. We've even done it in the rain.

And he's seen Field of Dreams multiple times so he knows what happens when you refuse to have a catch with your father. :)

and how many steps was that worth?

I got a Fitbit last Father's Day, but the little widget on the home page only has the 'LB lost since MM/DD' so now it looks like I've lost three pounds since yesterday instead of 3 pounds since a year ago. (I also gained ~8 pounds in there, so the recent trends are nicer)

I don't know yet, technically, I "got" the gift, in reality, I got an email saying the gift was en route.
