The 30-year-old owns a 0.98 WHIP with only 32 walks and 164 strikeouts across 138 1/3 innings. DeGrom is 5-4 with a 1.80 ERA in 15 career starts against the Braves, but is 0-1 in four starts this season despite allowing two earned runs in 25 innings. -- gracenote

I saw something somewhere that mentioned deGrom as a "leading Cy Young" candidate. I don't imagine we've ever had a Cy Young winner (except perhaps for a reliever?) who had a losing won-lost record, but I suppose that now that wins and losses are no longer regarded as accurate measures, such a thing may be possible. But it still seems like an unlikely thing to happen.

Meanwhile, I'm peaking in at the Sawx/Yanx and I see Boston hurler Rick Porcello at 13-4 with an ERA a few ticks over Four Sox are averaging over 6 R/G for him. Back in Queens, we have an insurmountable lead after two.

Six runs allowed in two games and you feel like we've never been in either game. That it's a one-run lead and we have 2-3-4 coming up in bottom 9 doesn't evoke even a hint of a chance.

And while I don't want to take anything away from Anibal Sanchez, he's not the same hard-thrower he was when he was younger but I don't think he put a ball near the center of the plate all night. He got the benefit of a few calls and got the Mets to chase but that's what happens when you're putting the pill where you want it. But, still, just two hits (fortunately in a row) with only two maybe three hard outs all night and then zippo off three straight relievers is pretty pathetic. That's 0, 1, 4*, 3, 2, and 1 runs over the last six games. Good thing we missed Scherzer and Strasburg, right? * 3 of them in garbage time of the 25-4 debacle ... at least we got a pitcher fired because of it

Another game, another pathetic performance by the Mets noffense. Poor DeGrom just can't catch a break. It must be tough taking the mound each start realizing that you have to pitch a shut out for 6-7 innings in hopes of getting a no decision. Give up just one solitary run and you will likely get tagged with a loss.

I’m at that point too. I give up. I can’t believe we continue to give starts to Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista. Dom Smith rots away in AAA. And I know he hasn’t exactly earned it, but you have to see what he has. Even if it means he has nothing.
