IGT Aug. 6, 2018: Red Dawn

The Reds return to Citi Field following a Braves series that saw the dis-spiriting reality of the team taking a modest step forward in their quality of play, only to still lose three of four.

Mets bring Noah Syndergaard to the mound. Reds counter with Homer Bailey who, despite being among baseball's biggest albatross contracts the last four years, but has been pitching reasonably well of late.

The big question as these two bottom feeders clash for dominance of the bottom: Will there be a Matt Harvey scoreboard video tribute?

Mets-Reds IGT 8/618

Syndergoo opposes Homer Bailey, who's been dreadful.

Actually Bailey sucked ass and they tried the Trachsel Cure on him, and he's been OK since.

Reds are playing better lately although they suck like us overall

A lot of last-name-first-names in that Reds lineup.

There's already "controversy" that Hovvey has set up a press conference at the same time as Mick's, despite the Mets having asked him not to.

How's the pee coming along, Matt?

Do you find the cocaine in the Queen City as robust as the varieties more common to the Meatpacking district of Manhattan? How do they compare?

You like staying up all night in clubs then banging Ford Modeling agency chicks afterward. Is Cincinnati's 10 pm downtown shutdown and Miss Pork Board candidates a match?

In a way, it's kinda funny Harvey ended up in Cincinnati because he turned down in assignment to _Las Vegas_

Before this (4th) inning started, I was starting to wonder whether this was going to be one of those games where we score early and then spend the next 8 frames trying to stave off challenges to that lead.
But now 5-Zip smells a lot better than 3-Zip

Re: IGT Aug. 6, 2018: Red Dawn

Yeah, I thought they scrod themselves royally the previous inning when they got the first two on, 3-0 on Frazier, then he inexplicably swung at ball four. And even though he recovered to hit a long double sacrifice fly, the team came away with no runs.

So here's to the tack-on runs. Key play was Rosario easily beating out a ball that would've been a double play for everybody else in the league except him and Billy Hamilton. Certainly every other righthanded hitter.

Frazier almost killing our secondbaseman.

Not that the bloop is the reason, but I'm not quite sure why Mickey saw the need for the Wahl/Gsellman switch.

In all, it was just disappointing to only get 6-1/3 of of Syndy tonight.

Hitting a robust .149. Still so young. Hopefully he gets a decent shot.

Making tonight more pleasing.

Rosario La Futura is bailing out on pitches over the middle of the plate and the outer half.

He needs a demotion.

Well, you gotta play the rest of the season and we're pretty thin on outfield talent. But he's only 31. Might not be a bad piece to have next year.

Joey Votto gives up running when he grounds out to first, not wanting race Flores to the bag.

I don't want him anymore.

Books.

Willie McCovey won the NL Rookie of the Year award by hitting .354 in only 52 games. (1959)
There's still enough time for McNeil to win it this year.

Re: IGT Aug. 6, 2018: Red Dawn

Is Jackson under our control for next year? The Giants signed him for two years, but then traded him to the Rangers who released him. We picked him up for the minimum, but doesn't that only apply for the rest of the season?

OK, so if Blevins was available to pitch the ninth, why didn't he face Votto and Gennett with the bases loaded in the seventh?

Blevins is (finally) pitching well enough to be dealable.

Edgy MD
Aug 07 2018 02:14 PM
Re: IGT Aug. 6, 2018: Red Dawn

Yeah, I think the Mets signed him after he cleared, rather than claiming him on waivers.

Yeah, I wondered why Blevins wasn't in for the seventh too, but I get the idea that Mickey has ease off on him only facing the toughest batters on the most thankless situations. No, I don't know why he instead chose to go with the least experienced guy out there in Wahl-E.
