Blue Oyster Cult always reminds me of Aaron Hielman.

Better than Aaron Boone, so that's something.

I just wanna say I like the cut of Jeff McNeil's jib. And these blue tops are growing on me. Go Metsies.

Meanwhile in St. Lucie, your #2 hitter David Wright is 0-2 with a walk. I think he can safely say he has no protection in the lineup because the turd batting behind him is Jay Bruce. The only bonafide stud in the lineup is #9 hitter DALE BURDICK whose 3-run homer boosted his average up to .181. Cut that biscuit, son.

Also, 2-1 Big League Mets, halfway through the 2nd.

I think we're going to regret not getting one of those runs home.

I think one would enjoy being 'stuck' in an airport bar for an hour
with Boog Powell. Great interview, Steve.

Wheeler got the curve working last inning. Where is it now?

I think Mike Cubbage is sitting four seats down from me.

Ah, youth and beauty. I used to be able to whore my way down to row three by the fourth inning.

Well, it did finally end and we did win.

On, and the Yanx lost. It's their first loss to Tampa since, I believe, sometime during the Ford administration.

Re: IGT 08/15 - Metsies at Birdies - BOC (not that one)

Game ephemera:

Entering the park, there was the typical tee-shirt giveaway. After I collected my léine, a dude approached me with obviously died hair. "Hey you're a Met fan?" he asked. "Are you going to be keeping that shirt. I was hoping to get an extra one for my niece."

"No, I'm going to hang onto it. Besides, it's an extra large."

"That's cool. That's cool."

I then proceed to the bathroom. While I'm doing the happy work of relieving myself, I curse myself for thinking everything's a scam.

So I finish up, wash up (always wash up!), walk out, look back up the concourse, and he's working the same spot. I figured somebody would have hooked him up by now. Met fans are nice! But there he is. And I notice he has a picnic-sized satchel behind him. SCAM!! Clearly he's collecting dozens of these for resale. I will need to have me a word with the authorities.

Good crowd for a team in the midst of an historically bad season. Also, a lot of mixed couples and families wearing both Mets and Orioles gear. Peace and brother- and sisterhood are wonderful things.

Kid to my right was from Staten Island, vacationing in Baltimore. Nice! Who knew?

In front of me was a large man wearing a Mets-40 home jersey with BIG SEXY in place of the name. I dream of someday having that kind of confidence. That kind of comfort in my skin. I hope I don't hit 300 pounds before I get there.

I was seated under the press box. A great vantage point to watch a game in a park where most everywhere is a great vantage point to watch a game. You know how some folks, realizing how outre it is to dress like their favorite player, attempt a flanking maneuver and dress like an umpire or something? I had a guy sitting a section over — a grown-ass man, mind you — who was doing PA announcer cosplay. Every time there was a player substitution, he stood up, put his home-made fake microphone to his mouth, and bellowed out the change. "Your attention please! Now pitching for the Mets! Number 39! JERRY BLEVINS!"

It was amusing enough, I guess, as my wife kept telling me through gritted teeth, "DON'T make eye contact!" Baltimore, baby!

Speaking of desperate-for-attention superfans, PIN MAN was in the house. Took me about 10 minutes to explain to my wife what his whole deal was.

Opposite-field hitting. Situational hitting. Hitting against the shift, right from the get-go. Weird. Only Conforto was flailing like a Met.

When Chris Davis knocked a one hopper off of the wall in right, Orioles fans sort of laughed. Not only did he turn a double into a single with his non-running ability, but a single is such a rarity for the clout-or-a-whiff Davis, that everybody was sure that actual baserunning was a novelty act for the big galoot.

There was about 18 square feet in the rightfield corner that was invisible to us. On one of the Mets triples, Orioles rightfielder Adam Jones disappeared into that corner, and we had no idea what happened to him. It seemed like he bought some stamps, met a girl, got her number, signed a few autographs, and checked out some travel brochures before the ball finally came out of the corner, but there was enough time for an inside-the-parker.

I used the tee-shirt to clean up a mess of ice-cream.

Imagine if you told that guy he's basically no different than the guy who dressed up as Robin Hood and goes to the Renn Faire, just different mediums?

Re: IGT 08/15 - Metsies at Birdies - BOC (not that one)

pin guy:

While much has changed in the 20 years since Frazier played in the Little League World Series, the tradition of trading pins remains alive and well. During Toms Rivers' run through the tournament, Frazier estimated he collected close to 1,000 pins, which he pressed into two binders that he intends to carry with him to Williamsport.

Maybe he's the same guy.

That's a good part of the what. Speculating about the why is where it gets complicated.

Also, I kneeled for the anthem and didn't get thwacked.
