It's SHaM Time!

Please select the winning percentage of your Second HAlf Mets and while you're at it tell me your:

1) SHaMVP (best hitter)
2) SHaM Young Award Winner (best pitcher)

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

I went with 36 wins. I think they will get a jolt with the return of Noah and Ces. McNeil and Gavin Cecchini will tear it up when they are called up.

The bullpen will continue to suck, and get even worse after they trade Familia.

ShaMVP: Brandon Nimmo
ShaM Young: Noah Syndergaard

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

Stupid Bryce Harper last night got me all excited about the ace-heavy rotation, so I allowed myself to dream on the return of a healthy Cespedes, a continuation of Rosario's improvement, and the astonishing return on Captain America, and rationalized it by telling myself they at one time were capable of playing .900 ball. All the way, SHaMs!

SHaMVP: David Wright
ShaM Young: Zack "18" Wheeler

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

I went with 28-40. They are what they are, and that gets them to 95 losses. They'll be weaker after they trade Cabrera, Bautista and Familia, but it won't really matter.

This is my dilemma in all of these prediction polls. Half of them I vote with my heart and end up voting for options like this.

That's a good nickname. Now I'm depressed that Wheeler didn't choose that as his number.

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

I picked 27 wins because it's closest to the .400 that I was thinking of.

I'll pick deGrom as the best SHAM pitcher, and, I don't know, Conforto as the MVP. I'd pick Cabrera, but he's likely in his final days. I thought about going with Nimmo, but that seems like too trendy a pick.

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

Assuming they don't trade half the team away, if Cespedes returns strong and the rotation remains solid, I see a considerable improvement. Too late for true contention, but maybe giving a run at third place.

1) SHaMVP (best hitter) - Cespedes
2) SHaM Young Award Winner (best pitcher) - Jake, headed to a league Cy Young.

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

Even the relentlessly lousy first-half Mets teams tend to ebb and flow before the second half is complete. I would expect we've bottomed out, but likely won't execute a face-saving turnaround. I anticipate a 30-38 "second half" for the first 69-93 final record in Mets history.

(At the 81-game mark, I examined first- and second-half Met performances, and spotlighted a few examples of teams that looked hopelessly lost finding themselves, along with the less cheery opposite. Kill All-Star break time reading it here.)

Position player who will lift our spirits most: A rising Rosario.
Pitcher who will give us somebody to root for: An untraded Cy DeGrom.

When you think the Mets can't get any lower, they do.
SO, I picked 27-41 to see if they can.
MVP- Flores - he'll play, dammit.

It will be an infield single in the last game of the year to help the Mets avoid 100 losses. Because Tebow hustles and plays the game the right way even with nothing to play for. And you will hear about it ALL OFFSEASON

Definitely. A big swing and the ball trickles toward third. The 3B picks it up but because of Tebow's hustle, there is no play, Tebow gets a standing ovation and his fiancee is shown weeping in the stands.

YA. GOTTA. BELIEVE. 51 wins.

SHaMVP: Bruce, who gets hot and hits 18 home runs in August
SHaMYoung: deGrom, who finishes with only nine wins but with a 1.34 ERA

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

SHaMs MvP CaNDiDatEs:

Brandon Nimmo: .940 OPS (Power has dropped off though, only 4 HRs in second half)
Jeff McNeil: .881 OPS (Nice average, but power has not translated yet. Only 3HR's in the bigs)
Michael Conforto: .877 OPS (15 HR's, 45 RBI)
Jay Bruce (yes, Jay Bruce!): .832 OPS (5 HRs)
Dominic Smith: .892 OPS (Small sample size, but has 3 HR's in only 43 AB)
Amed Rosario: .705 OPS (I thought this would be higher. but .831 OPS for September)
Peter Alonso: .000 OPS (at first glance, numbers don't look great, but also: 40 Man Roster spots taken: Zero; Service Time Accrued: None)

Who do you choose!?!?!?

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

Wheeler in a position to possibly somehow edge the Cy Young favorite for the SHaM Young Award is astounding.

[list][*]deGrom, Post ASB: 3-5, 1.94 ERA, 78 2/3 IP, 0.92 WHIP, 15 BB, 102 SO[/*:m]
[*]Wheeler, Post ASB: 9-1, 1.68 ERA, 75 IP, 0.81 WHIP, 15 BB, 73 SO[/*:m][/list:u]
The difference, to the extent that there is one, may be one ball that bounced out of a glove instead of being caught.

Based on that, yeah. It's Wheeler. And that's even with the ball that bounced out of Todd Frazier's glove the other night.

Re: We Are The SHaMpions 2018

well yeah, because deGrom struck 30 more guys out so there was no chance for the ball to bounce out glove.

But hell, Wheeler should get a 5th place vote or two for the Cy Young, straight up. (And Nimmo MVP votes) why are we bad again?

That grand total of 0.4 WAR out of Vargas, Harvey, d'Arnaud, Plawecki, Cespedes and Bruce helped a lot to get them there, dad gummit.
