Goodbye to Asdrubal

He is now a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The haul is AA SP Franklyn Kilome. And the Phillies pick up his salary, of course. Going to miss him, but time marches on. I was so wrong about him from day 1, he was an absolute delight as a Met and I wish him well. (so long as his well- ness doesn't conflict with any Metly wellness)

The return was probably the best they were going to get as the Wilpons dumped salary again.

Who the heck is this guy they got. Droobie turned out to be a terrific signing I would never have considered, best of luck making the playoffs with Philly.

Best Asdrubal in club history, and it's not even close. But seriously folks, I remember a bunch of apprehension at the time of his signing but I think he gave better than most or all of us expected and was a good soldier along the way. Fun to root for and gave off an aura of a team leader even though he rarely spoke publicly.

On Franklyn Kilome From John Sickels as written in pre-season (March): Franklyn Kilome, RHP, Grade B- Age 22, signed out of Dominican Republic in 2013, posted 2.83 ERA with 103/52 K/BB in 127 innings between High-A and Double-A, 121 hits; throws very hard, up to 98, mixing in an inconsistent curveball (which is sometimes very good) and change-up; strikeout rate should be higher given how hard he throws, indicator of need to improve secondaries; might end up in bullpen; high-ceiling no question; ETA 2020. From Amazin' Avenue written today.

You think Kent was as unmobile but as passable defensively as Asdrubal? I guess the star of defense-without-footspeed was Rey Ordóñez, but his legs were at least young and healthy, with some spring. Asdrubal had the speed of Rey-O in his thirties with a war wound.

Asdrubal played hard and was a pleasure. I will miss him These trades this season are salary dumps, you don't get tbetter prospects unless you foot the bill Kilome reminds me of Oliver Perez in the scouting

I was pretty certain that Asdrubal would eventually be dealt, but I still hate to see him go. He was far better than I ever expected him to be and he seemed to soldier on through nagging injuries. He gradually became a favorite of mine. I wish him well.

Ollie Perez, during his 1st & 2nd years with Pittsburgh, was untouchable as a young player. He couldn't have been had for three Cabreras You may not have been able to land him with Conforto as bait.

Kilome was a top 100 prospect going into the season. Things haven't gone so well this year, but the upside is still there. It's not a bad get.

Asdrubal wins the game for the Phils -- one in which the Phils led 3-0 until the Marlins got 3 back in top-7 -- with a 2R HR in bottom 8. That's the good news for the Phightins concerning Cabby. The bad was that he had been 5-for-30 (1 2B, 1 HR) since the deal.

He has pitched two good games since joining the organization, but I've noticed he has made an error in each game. Red flag? Small sample size? Sure. I recall that Juan Legares, who had an excellent glove, got the label of bad fielder because one scout saw him have one bad game on a very windy day. And that label propagated through the scouting reports (because that was probably the only scout who had seen him) until he proved he didn't deserve it. I'm just a casual observer, but if I were an opponent, I try bunting on him, just to see what happens. Later
