needs tommy john surgery on his pitching elbow, but hit two homers yesterday.

this is going to be a TOUGH decision. he has hit so well in his first season here and only 23 years old. would he have to miss a year to continue the 2-way dream? could he remain a hitter without the surgery and just keep going?

Re: Ohtani

I think you have the surgery now. It's a lost season. Position players come back earlier, and he can DH. So I'd think he can play next year.

It will be 2020 until he can pitch. That's ok.

Yeah, this. I was confused as to why they let him pitch Sunday, but I guess you see *now* if he can do it, and since he can't, let him get the surgery now and you'll see him DH next September and let him finish rehabbing his pitching arm over the following winter.

Re: Ohtani

he'll DH way before September. It's the throwing that's more of an issue, as we can clearly see he can hit with a torn UCL so a repaired one should be fine early next year.

It's more of an issue whether DHing cuts into his rehab program.

I hope he keeps playing. He is the only hope to keep an MFY from winning Rookie-of-the-Year in the AL.

But if he stops playing, he will be available to inject valium into the Yankees water cooler before the wild card game. That's more important.
