What the hell is Mickey doing? A thirty-four year-old at third base and another at shortstop? In this going-nowhere season? What happened to getting a look at the kids? What the hell is going on here?

The actual lineup the last time Reyes & Wright were in the same starting lineup (9/28/11):

SS - Jose Reyes
2B - Ruben Tejada
LF - Willie Harris
3B - David Wright
1B - Nick Evans
RF - Mike Baxter
C - Ronny Paulino
CF - Jason Pridie
P - Miguel Batista

Some guy named Justin Turner pinch-ran for Reyes after his (in)famous lead-off / bunt base-hit / quick-exit. Turner would stay in the game at 2nd w/Tejada moving over to SS
Josh Satin later pinch-ran for Wright and played 3rd for the remainder of the game.
Evans & Baxter drove in the runs in the 3-0 NYM victory. The 2R HR by Baxter was the first of his career ... there would be three more.
Batista pitched a complete game two-hit shutout. He'd only start five more games in his career (not surprising seeing as how he was already 40 y/o at this point)

Now that they're going to the bottom of the seventh, I hope they don't continue to run back-end relievers out there. It'd be nice to give these fans a chance to go home with a win, and Wright a chance to go out with one.

The cameraman filming the Gelbs/Cuddyer interview was trying his hardest to keep the dark-haired camera whore out of the shot.
He kept making slight movements to keep Cuddyer's (even grayer) head in her way.

I'm reminded of the time that Mrs. Glavine didn't hang around at a Mets game because her husband was not going to get his 300th win (I want to say this happened in Milwaukee?) I may have the details fuzzy on that.

here have been a few defensive gems in tonight's game. Each right fielder has made a stellar catch to take away a double. Both catchers have made some nice throws to nab attempted base stealers. Holaday definitely made some nice stops of wild sliders in the dirt with Dom Smith was on third base.

It's been about four months since I've watched a baseball game, and it will be another six months before I watch another one, but I had to come back for this one. I watched all 13 innings, and the post-game speech, of course. I'm really glad that David got a chance to do this, and I can tell he enjoyed it. When he first came up to the Mets I was 41 years old, and figured that I was past the point where I'd develop a strong sentimental attachment to a baseball player, but David Wright proved to be an exception. Great player. Great Met. I'm sure he'll still be in the Mets orbit one way or another, as a goodwill ambassador, or a roving instructor, or something else. And I'm also sure that he'll be back for a Number 5 retirement ceremony. (I'm a little surprised that they didn't announce it tonight. Maybe that will be covered in Jeff's address tomorrow. But it would have been nice if Howie had announced it during that video clip.)

Oh, and Olivia Wright throwing out the first pitch was absolutely adorable. Maybe it's because I'm also a father of two, but that moment provided the biggest throat lump of the evening for me.
