Growing sick of the criticism of the lack of weight their latter-day nominations and inductees carry, the directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum decide it's time to go off the reservation. Theorizing that rock 'n' roll wasn't just a music genre, but a cultural force from the mid-20th Century onward, they decided to put together a ballot that looked exclusively beyond the singers, musicians, composers, and producers that we most readily associate with rock 'n' roll. The Supplemental Ballot is made up of cultural figures that perhaps existed concurrently with rock 'n' roll, fed and supported the genre and its broader culture, documented it, collaborated with it, and were influential upon it.
High as a cloud, the directors started spitballing names. Realizing that the list quickly grew unwieldy, they capped the list at 100 (!) submissions, and even then, they knew there were some glaring omissions.
Having second thoughts about the whole enterprise, they sent the list to you for paring. Pick five to ten names to put on the final ballot.
