House of Cards final season

The final season posts today.

I was a late arriver to Netflix, so after hearing about the show for years, I didn’t get to actually watch it until season four. I love shows about presidents! I started at the beginning and binged. Those first couple seasons were amazing. Good characters, jarring twists.

But I think the quality dropped when Frank became president. It was much more interesting when he was scrapping to get to the top. They put him in the White House too soon. And and premise of plausibility went out the window with Claire being Vice President.

So we’ll see what happens today. I suspect they’ll try to go out with a bang.

I only just watched this over the last 6 months or so because people said it was good. I enjoyed it, but I do agree that some of the presidential stuff was a little on the boring/repetitive side. He went from spook operating mostly in the shadows and being able to sneak around to the crook in plain sight.

And then the scandal of course, but that's what should make this last season a nice bang. Maybe I should pause Luke Cage to finish this.

i've watched 4 of this season's episodes, but without Spacey, it just isn't worth it. The remaining characters are just not that interesting.
I'm not going to finish it.

I'm at episode 5. You have to suspend disbelief at LOT.

I've only seen the first episode so far. (I don't binge, so I'll only watch one episode per week as if it were a network or cable show.)

Based on that one episode, the show definitely seemed rather lifeless compared to previous seasons. It's a shame that they didn't get a chance to finish telling the story that they were planning on telling. I'd almost rather they had hired someone else (like Christopher Plummer, perhaps?) to play Frank Underwood for the final season.

It gets a bit better after the first episode. I'm at the sixth episode, and they do seem intent on tying up a bunch of loose ends.

I'm sure they will tie up some loose ends, but it probably won't be in the way they were planning. I'm sure the idea was for Frank to face the consequences of Zoe Barnes and Peter Russo.

Without giving things away, I can say that wasn't an ending I expected.

Never watched this, but saw a promo for the new season.

So, how much Diane Lane is there?

Re: House of Cards final season

I watched the first episode of the new season. "Dull" hardly scratches the surface. My wife -- a major fan at the beginning -- slogged through it; I could hear her groans all around the house.

The loss of Spacey, while necessary, hurt it dramatically. Claire never had the sense of humor that made Frank Underwood but despicable and likeable. She's too controlled, too one-dimensional.

I'd lost a lot of interest in the previous season, as things got more and more off the rails in a storytelling sense. Too much kitchen-sink plotting. The first season or two were good, but things started going south once Frank became president.

Admittedly, I much prefer the British original. Spacey was great, but Ian Richardson is even greater, far more erudite and capable of seducing the viewer into taking his side. And Diane Fletcher runs rings around Robin Wright; the character would eat up Claire and spit out her broken bones.

Tel the friend she's in there lots and lots! (There's one scene where she is actually showing lots and lots.)
