THE SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2018

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year for 2018 is JACOB deGROM, with 126.99 points. This is deGrom's third title in the last four years. His point total is the highest ever under the modern scoring system. He's the first player to top 100 points since Daniel Murphy in 2013.

PREVIOUS WINNERS:
2005 - David Wright, 140.17 points*; 2006 - David Wright, 121.16; 2007 - David Wright, 124.77; 2008 - Johan Santana, 121.37; 2009 - David Wright, 91.72; 2010 - David Wright, 117.56; 2011 - José Reyes, 104.96; 2012 - David Wright, 113.06; 2013 - Daniel Murphy, 107.30; 2014 - Lucas Duda, 95.62; 2015 - Jacob deGrom, 97.08; 2016 - Yoenis Cespedes, 90.62; 2017 - Jacob deGrom, 92.11.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR

Thanks to those who participated!

This year's Perfect Participation prize is gold 2019 Cadillac XT4! In 2016 it was a button, and in 2017 it was a tote bag, but in 2018 it's a Cadillac! Those of you who bailed out early regret that now, don't you? Hah!

Great work as always, BG! Hard to believe how many years it's been.

Short of a Cy, I'm kahnfident this is his most treasured accolade.

And look! A brand new car! The Jonses are gonna be green with envy.

Re: SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2018

Great work, way to stick through it. I voted 49 times, the first 49 games. Game 50 is when they officially hit .500, completely blowing the 10+ level they'd raced to. I guess you can say that's when my disgust with this group really hit home and a kind of indifference to them set in and really never lifted. Even the SHaMmiest performances of the second half didn't move me much.

I'm still kind of down on the Mets and what a mess they made again. I think it's entirely possible they continue to badly screw up this leadership transition and it gets worse before better.

Shit. Didn't mean to be a downer at the awards ceremony.

A pleasure, as it is every year, to have taken part. Thank you Grimm for making it a cornerstone of the Metsian experience (mine anyway). And congratulations to Mr. deGrom, who deserves all the awards, all the cars, all the tote bags.

Stealth non-Jake Player of the Year: Asdrubal McNeil. Even taking into account their very brief overlap, you could slap together the departing veteran's and arriving rookie's seasons and have the most productive Mets second baseman this side of Edgardo Alfonzo.

I'm with you JCL. In my life, I have never been this down on the Mets. Even through all the bad teams, there was always hope. The next big prospect, the next smart manager, the new GM will fix everything. This year it became clear, more than ever, that the problem is ownership. They are incompetent, they are broke, and they can't help themselves from butting in and fucking everything up. Three analytics guys for the Mets, 20 for the MFY's. I mean, that should tell you everything you need to know.

This must be what it's like to be approaching a divorce. I love this team, but I can see how flawed they are, and that they're never going to change. I feel bitter, I resent them for robbing me of what should have been three great years. Then I look back to my younger days and realize it's been like this forever. They've been bad to me for almost 20 years. I mean, yes, we've definitely had our good moments, but right now, they are bringing out the worst in me. I hate that. It's depressing and sad.

Plus I've gotten fat.

Excellent! And IMO accurate.

As always, thanks for doing this and please excuse me for not voting towards the tail end of the season.

If you had only voted 158 more times this year, you'd be driving around right now in a shiny gold Cadillac!
