Woyld you trade Thor for Kris Bryant?

Lots of chatter about this proposal today. Granted, just off-season "what if" chatter. [url]https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/heres-why-mets-trading-noah-syndergaard-for-kris-bryant-could-make-sense/300525672 I'd guess that true ace starting pitchers are more rare than corner sluggers. They've both been hurt. Maybe I'm overvaluing our players, but I think we need more for Thor. Trading him would significantly weaken our biggest strength.

Well, you're supposed to deal from strength, right? I don't know enough about Bryant to have an opinion on this, though.

I get that Bryant had an injury last year, but Thor has made 32 starts over the last 2 years. He's as much or more of an injury risk. I don't see how the Mets could ask for more in this deal, at least not with a straight face. Bryant has three years of control left, he's 27, and has an MVP under his belt? Yeah, I have to make this trade (assuming all due diligence is done on Bryant's health).

Deal from a strength to secure a need. And a player like Bryant is the type of player we should be looking to get in a trade. Young, difference maker, high upside. Seems like a better dude than Manny. Both guys are potential difference makers. MVP versus Cy Young. But I guess it depends on your organizational philosophy. If you're still trying to build around starting pitching like the 90's era Braves, then you keep Syndergaard. Corbin and the other free agents don't really compare to him. But if you're thinking to create a team that mashes (like the Red Sox or Cubs), then you pull the trigger and piece together whatever starters you can. Either option involves spending money. If you're just trading pitching for offense without other upgrades, then you're just rearranging chairs on the Titanic. Personally, I wouldn't do it. At the end of the day, if you we want to win, the team needs huge upgrades. I think you sign the best guys out there first. The type of players you want, then you make trades to make the pieces better fit. If it were up to me, I'd prefer Harper over Machado. But then we have too many lefty-hitting corner outfielders. Hey, maybe we should look at trades for Michael Conforto!

Maybe plug up the holes and redundancies the trade would create by adding Frazier for Chatwood or somebody. Did I just write that?

In principle, sure. In practice, there are two third basemen on the free agent market I would rather have than the best starting pitcher, so I'm not sure it's the most prudent use of resources. I'm not sure what the Cubs' plans are, but I'd kick the tires on Albert Almora and Wilson Contreras. Their ISO's were so bad after the All-Star Break that they were probably playing hurt, and it's possible that a buy-low opportunity exists (and, obviously, that an offseason is all they need to right themselves).
