Time to talk A.J. Pollock

I think that we are going to talk everybody before the dust clears, but now the first evidence of Pollock interest has surfaced.

Did Fred and Jeff find some Madoff bucks hidden in the couch cushions?

Is it possible that there is truth in Jeff's statement that is was Alderson who was recommending the smaller budgets and payouts?

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

this is the same pattern the Mets exhibited in 06, Fred gets briefly convinced he's discovered the man to lead him to glory and allows him to win the offseason.

Alderson, having been thrust upon destitute Fred never got that honeymoon and in fact got set up to fail with artificial bullshitty constraints

It's also probably more true that every year the Madoff situation is in the rearview is another year that the Wilpons gain back more freedom from their creditors and more control of their assets.

Maybe they sold a Jackson Pollock

Good play.

Obviously the real art-collecting Mets owner was Mrs. Payson. I looked through Doubleday's estate auction, and his art was a bunch of smokey pictures of snotty young men on horseback, sometimes chasing foxes.

I think the only art the Wilpons have collected is Howe.

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

Well they are about $15M below last year's payroll presently and didn't really add anything in the deal, so they have at least some money to play with.

Pollock has the upside to be the second best centerfielder in baseball, and the injury record to advise betting against that. I could justify a three-year gamble, but four would make me uncomfortable and five is right out.

Lololol.

I think if seawolf and I were hanging out watching TV on a Sunday afternoon, I would be completely happy with his channel selection.

And the way it caught the light in a room...

I think Pollock could be an interesting addition. I also think we have a cheaper, younger, and probably more durable discount version in Nimmo.

Lets all wish A.J. a happy 31st birthday today. Maybe that will help get him here, knowing that we care.

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

Latest buzz seems to be that A.J. Pollack will be their last play.

I would think this would take them above the payroll mark the past few years.

If you sign Pollack to a long term deal, what do you do when Cespedes eventually comes back? Whether it’s this year or next?

That's what managers do, innit? I doubt Cespedes can handle a full-time playing-time load anymore, and 4-5 guys for 3 roles (2 lefty, 3 righty) isn't a bad problem to have. If the situation becomes a little less tenable... well, hell, that's what other teams and their tradable assets are for, yeah?

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

if we sign him AND Ramos, along with carrying Cespedes, d'Arnaud, Lagares, Matz and Wheeler, we'll need to keep Marcus Welby MD on speed dial.

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

We've kept Dr. Welby on speed dial for a while now. He's probably tired of us calling him.

I'm leery of Pollock for that reason too, but like with Ramos, I'm willing to take a shot if the years and the price are right.

Is it time to stop talking about A.J. Pollock?

Mets appear to be out on A.J. Pollock in telling Wilson Ramos answer

“We are going to be using our resources efficiently, but we also have to look at where our priorities are,” Van Wagenen said. “Before this signing, a right-handed, middle-of-the order bat was real important to give us balance. Now that we have it, that may not be the No. 1 priority.”

They cannot get by on just Conforto, Lagares, and Nimmo to start the year. Sorry, I am not counting on Braxton Lee and/or Rajai Davis. Another major league outfielder is coming and it's probably going to be a centerfielder.

Yeah I think they're going to try and reel in Pollock using the least amount of bait possible.

I don't sense intense interest in him yet, I think there's been some Dodgers rumors but not much else. It's possible they are waiting him out

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

I wonder if Wright was brought to the winter meetings as a closer.

"Hey, Wilson, you wanna go for a sandwich? I've only recently gotten to know Brodie but he seems real neat. If you have any questions about cool places to live in New York, please ask. Things are really exploding right now in Briarcliff Manor. WHOO! 24-7! Hey are you gonna finish those onion rings?"

Re: Time to talk A.J. Pollock

Brantley-- a comparable, if lesser, commodity-- scored a 2 yr/$32M deal.

If Pollock wants $80M... he'll be waiting a while. That AAV will have to drop if he wants anything above 2-3 years. 3/50 or 4/60, mebbe?

Pollock is great when he's healthy. But he's never healthy. We've already got one of those in Cespedes. Pass.
