Re: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CLASSIC ROCK 2K18

If these top classic rock song countdowns never existed before, and suddenly, this Thanksgiving weekend, classic rock stations all around the country ran these countdowns for the first time ever, not only would Stairway not dominate the top spot, but in fact, tbere'd be no consensus top song and the top 10's would be all over the place.

Re: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CLASSIC ROCK 2K18

I'm really fascinated at the disappearance of Brown Sugar, and wonder what role if any a political correctness memo from Clear Channel Corporate may have played.

They list only the last 5 years of this thing online anymore but BS was a consistent RBI man (163, 281, 720 and 348 the last four years) and for years one of the most frequently spun platters in the rotation.

edit: Brown Sugar was 122 in the controversial-but-awesome "draft-a-team" version of this contest in 2011: http://archives.thecranepool.net/17100/f2_t17113.shtml

I'd have to guess "huge" on that one. The more I listen to the lyrics, the more uncomfortable I get.

Am I the only person left on the planet who finds "Bohemian Rhapsody" unlistenable?

As I recall there were 2 separate Classic Rock challenges that wound up in ugly recriminations and so forth.

FWIW, I never thought the crime of "studying up" was a bad thing. The whole idea of the contest was to have fun with the banal predictability of the horrible/horribly good classic rock radio genre.
