Let's talk Jerry Blevins

Now that they seem to be pivoting away from the top tier relief market and still need a lefty, do you think that they go back to the well on Blevins one more time?

I’m over Blevins. I read Tony Sipp May be an option. Never heard of him before. Was good with Houston last year but wildly inconsistent over the years. Seems like he has good years and awful years.

The advantage that Sipp would have over Blevins, I guess, is that Sipp is coming off a good season whereas Blevins is not. Otherwise, they are basically the same age and Blevins has proven that he can have consecutive good seasons.

Most of the value for relievers in last year's free agent market came from guys coming off down years. I don't know if there's a Tony Watson to be had this year, though. The Mets know Blevins better than anybody does at this point, so I would trust the assessments of our manager and pitching coach as to whether or not he has something left in the tank.

Blevins was about as guilty as anyone in contributing to that awful stretch last season. Not to suggest I predicted it but I probably did -- you can only go to the well so much. If the LOOGY is inadequate, as Blevins was last year, then he's a complete waste of a roster space and resources, it's such an all-or-nothing role. Really it was the second time we were scorched by relying on him so much, having "fell off a curb" years before that.
