TIME announces their PotY later this morning. Here’s your chance to get the drop.

It's already been announced. It's "Journalists", headed by Jamal Khashoggi.

Well, we can still go forward.

An entire profession feels like something of a cop out, particularly when it’s, you know, THEIR profession, but hats off to all journalists, and congratulations to the journalists who post here.

Agreed. Pick someone.

I mean, I guess it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. But you know, come on.

Not all journalists. Killed and imprisoned journalists.

Specifically:
* Jamal Khashoggi
* The Capital Gazette massacre victims: John McNamera, Rebecca Smith, Rob Hiaasen, Gerald Fischman and Wendi Winters
* Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo
* Maria Ressa

So, 9 people in total.

9 that we know of.

I'll take that.

It seems like there was almost no choice they could have made that wouldn't have been a repudiation of the president.

Even Nimmo, somehow, I bet.

Write-in for Christine Blasey Ford (Brandon Nimmo a close second).

Re: Person of the Year

It's amazing what a tumultuous news year it's been that a group like the at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teenagers can garner an "oh yeah ..." at this point in the year, when the instantaneous movement they begot and the poise they showed as the movement's leaders was a jaw-dropping marvel at the time.

Turkish President Recep ErdoÄŸan was looking like a good bet for autocrat of the year back in January, and then Prince MBS goes and makes ErdoÄŸan look like the good guy.

Sergei Skripal (the poisoned Russian spy) and his daughter Yulia looked like hinges of history back in Spring. Now it's all, "right ... them ... ."

The last known male northern white rhino died. That's a rhino of the year right there.

Kim Jong Un. Come on! How did we forget THAT guy?! The new year opened with the president screaming the weird (and strangely Freudian) "My button is bigger!" at him.

You want an entire class of people? How about "The Refugee"?

Pot! It's legal all over!

Another group it could have been included the victims who sparked the start of the "Me Too" movement.

That was last year's winner: "The Silence Breakers."

Didn't realize it was that long ago.
Thanks.
