I needed Ocho and Metfairy to remind me of this. Anyone wanna do a charity gift exchange again this year? I think we're at a dozen years running, at least. Lemme know if you do!

Yeah, I was remiss this year. It was somewhere in the back of my mind.

I'm in. Same charity I selected for my birthday fund drive on Facebook, which some of youse guys have already very charitably donated to. Basically Edgy's charity with matzah ball soup as an appetizer.

I got this nice email from JDRF today asking me to chip in for all the littles with type 1 diabetes. This is gonna be my charity this year, as my awesome little RoboCop niece has made wearable tech so fashionable that it almost makes your forget how crappy T1D is. So for this little kid who wears a monitor and pump 24x7, thanks to the nice person who draws my charity and donates to JDRF this year.

Re: CPF Charity Thang - 2k18 edish?

Dear Scott Gianelli,

Because of you, we are changing lives. Thanks to your donation, the JDRF community is able to unite together to better the lives of so many families challenged by type 1 diabetes (T1D) every single day. Thank you so much for your gift of $50.00 to JDRF.

You are not just delivering hope for so many battling this disease, but incredible breakthroughs to make life safer and healthier until a cure is found. In the past year alone, JDRF was able to advance 25 different types of research to significant, new stages of development, meaning more treatments and more breakthroughs towards a cure. The engine that drives this momentum is the talent, inspiration and passion of the T1D community - of people like you. I invite you to read more about the impact your gift is having at jdrf.org/theplan.

Motivated and supported by people like you, we will stop at nothing, absolutely nothing, until Type One becomes Type None. Your generosity moves us one step closer to achieving our shared vision. We thank you today and every day.

Sincerely,

Re: CPF Charity Thang - 2k18 edish?

I like it when I get a cause that I also wholeheartedly agree with, like this one.

Dear Fman99,

Thank you for your gift of $25.73 to the Committee to Protect Journalists. CPJ is deeply grateful for your support.

This year has been an extraordinarily dangerous one for journalists. According to CPJ’s records, the number of journalists killed in relation to their work in 2018 is on track to surpass the number we documented in each of the previous two years. In early October, Saudi agents killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. A few days later, TV journalist Viktoria Marinova was raped and killed in Bulgaria. Weeks later, CNN staff was forced to evacuate when a suspicious package containing an explosive device was delivered to its New York office.

These attacks against the press serve as a chilling reminder that the threats to journalists continue to intensify.

That is why CPJ has increased its advocacy, reporting, and emergency response for journalists all over the world. We called for a UN investigation into Khashoggi’s murder and urged the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to pressure the Trump administration to investigate Saudi Arabia’s role in it. We are also calling on Bulgarian authorities to identify a motive in the brutal attack on Marinova. And, after U.S. authorities arrested a man suspected of mailing the explosive device to CNN, we urged President Trump to stop his rhetorical assaults on the press and branding of journalists as enemies.

CPJ fights every day for press freedom because we know that when journalists are silenced through violence, we all suffer. We fight because we believe the public has the right to hold governments accountable and be informed. We fight because we believe every individual has the right to free expression. And we know you do too.

Thank you so much for your support. You are essential to CPJ’s efforts to defend journalists and stand up for press freedom all over the world. For the latest on the work you’re helping make possible, please visit our website at cpj.org.

Best regards,

John D. Weis
Director of Development & Outreach
