I don't think we ever had a 2018 version on this topic so, since it's so close to the turn of the year, I'll just start a new one a bit early and call it the 2019 thread.
Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have "parted ways" ... which pretty much sounds like the sometimes volatile Portuguese manager was fired.
Doesn't help that Man U currently sits in a distant 6th place as the season nears its halfway point, 11 points out of 4th and a slot in next year's money generating 'Champions League' tourney, or that there are the usual reports of friction between him and many of his players. Probably wasn't entirely his fault as by coincidence (or perhaps not) there was a NY Times article in Sunday's paper on how Man U has lost the edge they had over other clubs in recent years on the business and development side of the game. One of the comparisons made was the gap they used to have over Liverpool which very much translated into a years-long gap in the EPL standings. But things seem to be in disarray at 'Old Trafford' right now with no clear person or philosophy in charge. Then -- right about the same time as many were reading the piece on Sunday -- Liverpool was in the process of beating Man U 3-1 to jump to the top of the league.
