Can play all 4 infield spots, plus corner outfield positions. Has hit it pretty good in the minors, still has options left if he doesn't crack the Opening Day roster. The MLB.com article kinda raves on the guys we gave up. I know we got old turds like Hector Santiago and Rajai Davis to wear the minor league uniforms, but Brody Van Carsalesman should try to hang on to a couple of prospects anyway. Adolph, Manea and Santana, all minor league players, each had All-Star caliber 2018 seasons in the Mets system. Adolph, 22, was named Team MVP in 2018 for the Brooklyn Cyclones (Short A Level), batting .276 in 61 games with nine doubles, 12 triples, seven home runs, 35 RBI and 14 steals. He posted a .509 slugging pct. and an .857 OPS. His 12 triples were tops in the NY-Penn League. Defensively, Adolph did not commit an error in 2018 while tallying five assists. Adolph was selected by the Mets in the 12th round of the 2018 June Draft after starring at Toledo, where he earned All-America honors. Manea, 23, was a South Atlantic League All-Star for Columbia (Class A) in 2018, where he hit .261 in 100 games with 12 homers and 53 RBI with a .432 slugging pct. and .368 on-base pct. (.800 OPS). In 65 games behind the plate, he threw out 37.7 % of basestealers. Santana, 19, led the Kingsport Mets (Rookie Level) in batting (.348) and OPS (.917) in 2018 in his 53 games with 13 doubles, four homers and 35 RBI with eight steals. His .348 average ranked fifth in the Appalachian League. In his four seasons in the Mets system, Santana, a Dominican Republic native, has hit a combined .329 (170x516) with 98 RBI and an .891 OPS

Yeah, this seems like a lot to give up for a AAAA guy who's going to get ~75 MLB AB this year, but whatever, I guess.

I'm having a hard time imagining the use-case for Davis, much less justify coughing up 3 decent-looking lottery tickets for him, unless it's to purposefully get a pitcher-hitter guy. Can't McNeil provide backup at the corers and also hit? Rivera (I personally am a Rivera skeptic, but just for argument's sake?) This must be what Brodie has in mind. I'll bet he thinks he Davis is actually two guys, which is why he was willing to part with three for him.

It's more than I would give up for somebody who might not be better than Rivera. But maybe some of that AAA hitting is legit, and the light switch will click on at this level given enough chance. I can't imagine planning to use somebody specifically as a hybrid player unless that player is special, though.

I think the key to the Davis acquisition is the options. One of the big changes that's started to happen over the last few years (with the Los Angeles Dodgers being obvious example - especially in relation to the bullpen) was the advent of an effective 30-32 man roster, where players were much more routinely shuffled through. I'm not saying it's a good idea, just that players with options have enhanced value apart from their low salaries with their flexibility.

His power seems to be real, but a lot of swing and miss. Kinda like a right-handed Duda. I guess he's insurance in case Alonso flops? Maybe could also platoon with McNeil if he struggles against lefties. Anyway, sounds more promising than Keon Broxton.
