Arby's

deGrom and Syndergaard both avoid arbitration and agree to new salaries for 2019. deGrom gets a $10M raise and will make $17M, and Thor gets a bump to $6M.

Good for them.

I'm sure Brodie will be thrilled when they let him know what happened, he being locked in a closet during this process.

I still am amused at the doom-and-gloom contingent who said that the team had to avoid arbitration or else DeGrom would be unhappy and not sign a long-term contract.

This is the obvious way to prevent it: offer him a massive raise. He goes away happy and has a positive attitude toward the way the team treated him.

Now Matz. That's about $26M in salary commitments confirmed for the rotation today.

“I'm so hungry I could eat at Arby's” is one of my fav Simpsons lines.

Also, Wheeler avoids arb today and signs for just shy of $6M.

I'd like very much to see a projected salary with the arbitration numbers finalized, Wright's agreement worked in, and some different figures based on if/when Cespedes comes back.

I like Arby's. But the the menu has gotten really big and strange in recent years. I still just get a basic roast beef. They do have a warm cinnamon crisp thing in the fall that is awesome!

Re: Arby's

One of my childhood best friends owns a couple of local Arby's so I like going there :)

Their roast beef sammies are good, though I think they have shrunk. And I was going to say earlier that I like their fish sammies. My mom complains every single time we go there because her chicken sandwich basically disintegrates so I think I finally have her convinced to get something else.

Carry on with Mets stuff!

Re: Arby's

It's at least somewhat disappointing to think these arbitration salaries undermine the chance at multi-year extensions being established before free agency.

And it's at least somewhat surprising that Wheeler earns a salary 99.58% of what Syndergaard is getting. But service time factors a lot in arbitration-period salaries, and Wheeler's two years in DL Land factor into his service time.
