Nicholas Castellanos might make a good topic for people to discuss

Detroit outfielder and thirdbaseman Nicholas Castellanos is reportedly asking for a trade, rather than cooling his heels with a rebuilding team.

Nico is coming off his best ObP season, and probably his best season season.

He's not a strong defender, but maybe Nimmo can fulfill his destiny of sliding over from a corner into center.

Can hit, but he's a defensive liability wherever you put him. Not sure he's the best fit for this team.

The difference in defensive value between him and Lagares or Broxton is at least comparable to the difference in offensive value.

Almost three years later, Nick may still be worth talking about.

He's exercised an opt-out clause in his contract with the Reds and will become a free agent, likely tied to a QO.

Might he be the guy who replaces Michael Conforto, if indeed we need a replacement for Michael Conforto?

The tough thing is that, if you take last season as your guide, the team would need two starting outfielders.

Castellanos has some red flags tied to him. A good, not great hitter over his career. Coming off his best season. Played in a hitter's dream park. Bad defensive OF. And likely tied to a QO.

Good gap-to-gap hitter, and so gets a lot of extra-base hits even when the ball isn't flying out. Strikes out a lotta lot too though.

Would bring two wives to the Wifey Watch thread. Has a strange reputation of homering during somber on-air moments.

If not for the QO, definitely but not with the loss of a draft pick when they are trying to replenish the minors as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run.

Well, in a sense, I guess, you get that draft pick back if you let Michael Conforto walk.

That's true but I think that they want to add top players to the system and if they sign Castellanos they lose pick 14. It's why Starling Marte and Kris Bryant make more sense as they wouldn't cost the Mets a draft pick (because they were traded during the last year of their contract).

GABP surely inflated his numbers, and the draft pick attached doesn't make it any better. And his defense certainly hasn't improved in the last 3 years. So.....pass. As noted, there are better options.
