Has anyone tried PATRIOT on Ammyzon Prime?

It's a little uneven but savage dark comedy about a singing undercover intelligence agent involved in geopolitical hijinx that goes hilariously awry.

New season only recently arrived which alerted us to the first. We LOLLed quite a bit.

So glad to find a fellow fan. We're up to the Bachelor Party episode in season 2 and I almost died laughing at the little cop fight. The plot is getting completely out of hand but they are acknowledging as much with the "jellyfish" theme.

These has been so little buzz behind this show and some mixed reveiws but it's really unlike anything out there, beautifully shot and acted, and even sung. "Afternoon Spray"!

Also, hottest detective ever.

I was so happy to see Leslie come around now that he knows whats up and join the good guys - he was never a bad dude he just thought John was a fuckup, and now that he knows the truth you see what a patriot he is, helping the dude who shot him in the fucking face!

I'm not reading it till I complete season 2 but will say that Leslie's scene in rehab, where he sniffs coke in the meeting was a great example of the tragic-comedy this show really excels at. I'm laughing and crying at the same time. He kills it like Clarence Boddicker.

The early episodes were a setup for the main series plot. And many of the things in them turn out to have major significance later (the pilot, for instance, reveals a major plot twist that you won't notice until the second viewing). Still, "Believers" is a powerful stand-alone episode (and turns Star Trek tropes on their head) and "Signs and Portents" begins to reveal the main plot.

Recently went through DVDs for Season One of KILLING EVE

Got a bit weird at the end, but the psycho chick actress is great and overall it's good enough for me to give Season #2 a try starting in about a month (Apr 7).

So between Eve, Thrones, and baseball all starting in or around early April to keep me entertained, I'm not going to have time to take a shit that month.

But it's short commitments on both KE (8 episodes) & GoT (6 longer ones) so I don't foresee any long term health problems resulting and those two are probably the extent of my non-MLB viewing for the summer.

No starting date listed yet for B.C. Saul

I'm loving The Orville. It can be silly sometimes, but it's not afraid to go dark occasionally. We got the DVD of Star Trek Discovery's first season (because we weren't about to pay for CBS All Access) and we were like, eh.

Mrs Lefty watched the first season of Killing Eve and got too frustrated at the Sandra Oh character so she stopped.

Two Netflix shows:

Sex Education. About Otis, a 16yo boy who inadvertently becomes a sex therapist for his classmates. It's dramatic but light. Gillian Anderson plays his mother, a sex therapist herself with absolutely not boundaries. Lots of great characters and plot twists.

The Umbrella Academy. A group of superpowered heroes who were trained together as kids (in sort of an X-Men-ish Academy). When their "father" dies, they return to the funeral and discover the world will end in a few days if they don't stop it. First class comic book fare, and gets a lot of credit from dealing with the characters instead of concentrating on derring-do.

I made it... it was fine, the overall story from seasons 2-4 was not bad though the characters weren't great/memorable at all. Season 5 was an utter waste and the show could have ended after 4.

I couldn't help but compare it to Misfits, which is the best superhero TV series (though not from a comic book), especially since Robert Sheehan played a very similar character in both. You could see Klaus as an older version of Nathan from Misfits

Lol. The closest anything ever came to West Wing was The Newsroom. And until Aaron Sorkin does another TV series there won't be anything else.

We actually went to the West Wing Weekend in Bethesda, MD last September and it was a hoot. A couple hundred hard-core groupies. Lots of panels and I got to play Leo in a table read of an episode. After the opening scene was finished, we all hummed the intro theme. It was awesome.

Latecomer to GoT before last season.

YMMV, but at its best (Season 1, 3, 6) it's like House of Cards, only with crazy production values, nudity, and dragons.

I like some Sorkin (as I like some Sherman-Palladino), but only when he's got strong collaborators pushing back on him (midseasons West Wing, eg); otherwise, there's a lot of florid hot air/telling-not-showing.

I do think it's a stretch that Midge goes full pottymouth as soon as she grabs a mic but am not letting that kill it for me.

love love love this show.

as for DEADWOOD movie, it was a bit of a disappointment. Not bad, but not satisfying either.

i'm now watching the Neil Gaiman series, GOOD OMENS, on Amazon. The book was funnier but i'm enjoying David Tennant and Michael Sheen together.

Also, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD is back, for those who care. I still do, for some reason.

I've made it to S2:E2 and still enjoy Mrs. Maisel. As for Deadwood and the others you mention, I am a bit of a neanderthal and don't do Netflix, Hulu, all those other things, and gave up Showtime (is there still Showtime?) and HBO back when I stopped watching MTV.

Here's how far behind the curve I function: I did not even know about Breaking Bad until I was sent the clip of the last 20 minutes of it. I loved Badfinger's Baby Blue (and everything about Badfinger except the suicides) so I acquired the first and second seasons of Breaking Bad from the library and started in. It took a couple months and having to buy a couple of the seasons that I did not want to wait for in the library queue, but I was all primed and ready for Better Call Saul by the time I finished. Now, must wait to 2020 for more BCS but I can take it. That's my tweakability in case Deadwood is not in that groove. I don't know what it actually is about but suspect it may have a Fargo season 2 feel. If so, I would watch that.

I also still grieve that People of Earth's 3rd season never happened. Ended on a cliffhanger. Unfair!

Can we all just agree that Suzy is 11 times funnier than Midge?

I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I say that-- Amazon Prime things and "Killing Eve" and "Legion" excepted-- you're missing most of the best stuff, along with some vital documentaries.

WAS watching "Handmaid's Tale," but needed a chaser, so I just slammed the first/only season of PEN15 on Hulu-- 30-y/o comedians play middle school versions of themselves alongside kid actors in circa-2000 middle school-- on Hulu, and it's maybe the funniest thing I've seen since middle school.

Anybody catch the premier of NOS482 on AMC this weekend? Haven't watched it, tho I did record it. Based on a horror novel by the Son of King himself, Joe Hill. I thought the novel was great, so I'm gonna try and watch this one.

I am a lot older than you think I am. (It's OK). I find in retirement I don't have nearly as much time to devote to tv as I did when I was still working. Thanks for the suggestions, however.

I wanna know how youse mugs pay for all these subscription services.

I feel like we take it up the butt on the cable bill to start with, mainly so I can watch the Mets & Islanders. Then we got the Amazon sub for the shipping bennies (I guess) and broke up with Netflix to pay for it. But Hulu + Netflix + HBO + cable+ Amazon, that shit adds up. What can I do without?

A kid in college helps. We have Hulu free with her student Spotify account. And we have Amazon thanks to her student-discount Prime account. I'm looking to cut the cable cord, too.

Yeah, it seems to me that you'd want to opt for a cable package OR for a la carte subscription services.

During baseball season I can't find enough time to watch much other stuff as it is so I'm not even tempted to start looking for pay services just to give me more options I don't need.

And if I miss something because I don't subscribe to the trendy channel du jour then I'm OK with that.

Re: TV 2019

We were paying $250 per month on FIOS (3 cable boxes, internet, land line). That did not include any premium channels. We "cut the cord" about 18 months ago - kept Verizon for just the pipe ($55/month), went with PS Vue for most channels (another $50 per month), which does carry SNY, and then my wife tacked on the $8/month to watch her CBS shows on their All Access App. Saving $130 per month since and have not looked back.

Thinking of adding Hulu or Netflix just to have access to some of the more buzzworthy series out there. Even with another subscription at ~10 bucks per month I'm still way ahead.

Re: TV 2019

My Comcast bill jumped from about $180 to $240 very quickly, and really we don't watch any of the premium channels. We want more on Netflix and Amazon Prime -- and my MLB ap so I can see the Mets.

I called and was able to drop all the "premium" channels we never watched -- HBO, Starz and the rest -- and the bill dropped down to $170, which includes cable and landline.

SNY is on youtube tv. Doesn't look like MSG +2-* is though.

I need to cut it out and do that (Though I need something better than PS3 for streaming to TV i think) but I just haven't gotten around to it.

We just never got around to canceling the auto-DVR and have just caught up with this series. I mean, WTF? This last ep had to be the shittiest one of the entire franchise, not only because it's boring and silly but because I don't even get it.

Profane, adult-themed THE BOYS on Amazon is about a corrupt group of dickhead superheroes and the corrupt criminals trying to take them down. It's a little uneven so far but some shock and some big laughs and big action murders, we're hanging in there. Diabolical!

I am guessing this is based on some actual comic book I know nothing about but which half the folks here have read I'm sure

Re: TV 2019

it's based on a Garth Ennis series from a decade ago, originally published by DC, but they cancelled it (it hit too close to home, i guess). It was picked up by an indie and had a successful run. Ennis is the guy who created PREACHER, which was produced as an AMC series by Seth Rogen, who is producing this one too.

Ennis is hyper-violent, and funny, and dark. If you like PREACHER, you'll probably like this. It's about the power that can be wielded by celebrities, and the abuse of that power that is willingly indulged by an ignorant public, so its pretty timely.
