The Knicks finally giving Long Islanders a reason to watch, as they traded for former Seawolf Jameel Warney last week. He's scored 26 games in his first two games with the Westchester Knicks. He'll be 25 soon, so this is probably his last shot at the NBA. Hopefully he gets another cup of coffee. (He got three games with the Mavs last season.)

I love Porzingis, but the guy has missed a year with a torn ACL and the history of recovery from those is a mixed bag (538 ran an article about it when he first got hurt) ESPN says the Knicks are getting a 1st rounder as well. But not Dallas' as that is promised to Atlanta, so a 3rd team involved. I'll wait to see the final deal but this seems like an "ok" move especially if Porzingis privately said he wasnt coming back

Considering that, excepting the salary room they're getting, they're essentially moving him straight up for a guy they passed over in the draft... it's tough to swallow. Kevin Knox would've been a throw-in. Porzingia is an all-NBA talent with room to grow, yet. I'm pretty sure this officially makes me an NBA-fandom ronin, at least until Dolan sells or goes to the great vanity MSG-opening-gig in the sky.

well, they traded him as much to get out from Hardaway and Lee's contracts. the Knicks can now sign two max players this offseason and pair them with a high first round pick, Smith, Knox, Robinson, Ntkilina. the question is - are 2 great players really going to want to come here? If the knicks know that ::wink wink:: Durant and Irving wanna come play together then its a good deal.

first of all, *Porzingis made it clear to Knicks he was unhappy and would not sign an extension, so he'd be out after next year; *Other teams also know he'll be a 1-year rental; and *he's been injured every season in the league, and has yet to return from an ACL. These are all factors that significantly reduce his trade value. Despite that, the Knicks got: *Last year's 1st rounder (PG Dennis Smith), with lots of upside; *not ONE, but TWO future first round picks (the first one is NOT lottery protected); and *enough cap space for TWO (instead of ONE) max deals this summer. So next year, instead of having Durant + top 5 pick + Porzingis (unhappy, coming off an injury, and playing on a 1-year deal), they could have: Durant + top 5 pick + a happy Kyrie or Kawhi or even Kemba, PLUS 2 more future 1st rounders. Of course, if they don't end up with 2 max deal FAs next year, this whole thing falls to shit. But I don't blame Perry for pushing all his chips into the middle of the table, and I don't think he'd do it if he didn't already know he's got a likelihood of luring KD here. Once KD is here, he can pick who he wants to play with, and there will be a player who'll want to join him, particularly if we get Zion the scion. I don't blame people for being skeptical about their chances of getting 1, much less 2, big FAs here, but I like Perry and think he can be a more effective recruiter than any other GM we've had in recent years. So i'm willing to wait to see what he does before calling this deal a disaster.

Will New Orleans turn down ANY LA offer out of spite after LA basically tampered during the season to push for a trade? Will Boston still be interested if Kyrie jumps ship? lastly, should the Knicks really want to tear it down for AD as they did for Carmelo in a trade? you'd have to make the deal before the draft with Durant/Kyrie not here yet. what happens if you blow the 3rd pick, Robinson, & Knox for AD and then dont get Durant? you'll need to give AD a max contract next year and there goes the cap space and you are back to having the Carmelo situation where you torched the roster to get a guy and then paid him and have no money and no assets left to build a roster. I'd rather keep Robinson, Knox, Smith, and the 3rd pick - Barrett or Morant. If Durant and a Leonard/Kyrie/Walker sign here that is great. if you cant get a top tier guy and "another guy" or two top tier guys (but NOT two "other guys", dont do that) then you continue the slow rebuild with a decent looking core and - with the Dallas picks coming and Isiah Thomas the draft pick killer long gone you have 6 first rounders including all of yours in the next 4 years.

To be fair... I'd MUCH rather build around a guy like Davis-- a rare talent, and a force on both ends of the court-- than a guy like Anthony. Even on a budget, and even without Kyrie... you can do a LOT with a core of Davis and Durant.

So the Lakers have apparently worked out a deal for Anthony Davis ... so there goes another off-season plan for the NYK up in smoke. Several players plus #1 draft picks for most of the remainder of the century (including this year's #4 overall) going the other way.

The draft is tonight. So I clicked on the NBA station on cable to see their draft preview. And who was one of the talking heads at the desk? Billy King! That's BILLY F'N KING! You remember. He made the trade that set the Nets franchise back five years and almost destroyed it. And that was after almost destroying the Sixers franchise (I know. Who cares?). He is up there on the wall of shame with the person who told Napoleon the invade Russia and the guy who designed the Edsel. i have more confidence in Perry than any other Knick GM in recent memory, and Dolan has checked out after the Jackson fiasco, so i'm suspiciously hopeful. Also, my nephew works in their scouting department now, so maybe that gives me more confidence for some reason. But he's still the same kid who used to spin in circles until he puked, so i'm not sure why I feel that way.

summer league in vegas starting July 5. Rosters not settled, but presumably, it will include the draft picks, the bench/reserve players, and whomever else they can scrape together, including foreign players, g-leaguers and UDFAs. Hopefully, they sign some bigs to play there with a shot to make the team, because we need depth up front. Assuming we don't get one of the big 3 (Durant/Kyrie/Kawhi), the Knicks have said no "max deals" for anybody else, so we're not going to pursue 2nd tier FAs for big money. Which is ok with me. But we definitely need some PF/C types who can play enough to keep Knox as a SF, not a PF (where he is over-matched). They're talking about Julius Randle, but i'd just as soon we re-signed DeAndre Jordan and/or Noah Vonleh, who were both good for the team last year and won't require big money (i don't think).

Knicks have officially declined qualifying offers to Mudiay and Kornet, so they become UFAs and Knicks now have 2 max slots. I figured they'd decline Mudiay's option, but i thought they'd hold onto Kornet, who is both effective and cost effective.

Yeah, these reports declaring the Nets as "winners' in the FA game are, to put it kindly, premature.



I don't claim to know a whole lot about basketball -- but Durant is already 30 y/o, will turn 31 before next season starts, and will be 32 before HIS next season starts at which

point he will have gone at least from May of '19 until November of '20 without playing a meaningful game.

And you're giving a four year contract, for at most three years of service, to a big man (although not a bulky one) coming off a major leg injury.

Got a ways to go before I'd be doing a victory dance over that.

summer league team is winless, at 0-3. Barrett was bad in first 2 games, but gave a solid well-balanced performance in game 3 against Raptors, with 17pts/ 10reb/ 6ast/ 3blk. Brazz put up 30 in the loss to Suns. Wooten's shot-blocking and Cavanaugh's touch around the basket continue to intrigue, as they audition for the "big man-last slot on the bench" role. Next game is against Lakers tonight (Wednesday 7/10).

They signed Kenny Wooten to an "exhibit 10" contract! This is a good move. It's an invite to camp and a guarantee of $50k in the g-league if he doesn't make the team. They can have 20 bodies in camp so, between this and the 17 contracts they've already got, they can sign 2 more players (X10 or otherwise).

They signed itty-bitty PG Lamar Peters to a non-guaranteed deal to come to camp. He is an UDFA that played with them in the summer league. This leaves them one more slot.

Training camp is about to start next week and the Knicks have finalized their 20-man (max) camp roster: Guaranteed contracts (15) starters: Smith / Barrett / Morris / Randle / Robinson rotation: Payton / Trier / Knox / Portis Bench: Ntilikina, Ellington, Brazdeikis / Gibson Reserve: Dotson, Bullock (dl) 2-way contracts (1) K.Allen, ______ (Wilkes was cut) Exhibit 10 (4) Wooten (F/C), VJKing (F/G), Hinton (G/F), Peters (PG) These 4 played for Knicks in the summer league, and will likely end up in the G-League, with Kadeem Allen. The only intriguing one is Wooten, who is a shot-blocking maniac. Maybe they'll give him the other 2-way deal, now that Wilkes is gone. Frankie played well for France this summer and, hopefully, will find himself in the rotation, but I doubt it. I hate Dennis Smith's game, despite his talents. If he doesn't hit open shots or play D, he shouldn't get minutes. But he will, because talent. Payton was brought in to be a backup. Morris may start over Knox. Knox is much like Smith... physical talents, with no shot and no D. Once Bullock gets back, he'll get the backup SF minutes and some at SG, moving Bradz off the roster to a reserve role. If Barrett doesn't look ready, Bullock may even start, letting RJ come off the bench at the 2 or 3. Gibson, Ellington and Dotson will offer leadership by handing out towels on the bench. I know deep down they're going to suck, because all my teams do. But, unlike baseball, i am always optimistic at the start of every basketball (and football) season.

The first pre-season game is a victory against Washington 104-99. Knicks jumped out to a big 1/2 lead, and then held on as Wizards slowly came back in the 2nd half... but not far enough back. don't look now but since firing David "ballast" Fizdale, Knicks have won 3 of 4, including a record-setting 143-120 win over the Hawks. This, however, shouldn't stop them from trading everybody on a 1-year deal, asap. They might even get a late 1st-round pick for Morris, after his excellent play so far this season. And i wouldn't mind if they moved Randle and his 3-year deal. i hate watching him play... he can shoot and rebound, but he takes bad shots, handles the ball too much, and plays no defense. He's like a poor man's Melo. I can't stand Smith, either, for the same reasons (plus he can't shoot). This would be my lineup if we dealt them all: Peyton / Bullock [dl] / Barrett / Knox / Robinson Ntilikina / Trier / Dotson / Gibson / Portis Allen, Ellington, Bradziekis But if we could get anything for Bullock, Ellington, Gibson and/or Portis, then they could go too.

Mills is out as Team Prez, with GM Perry taking over on an interim basis. I'm glad this happened before he could pull the trigger on yet another stupid trade before the deadline on Friday. On the other hand, only the Knicks would have to fire a team prez a few days before the trade deadline.

They showed the "Willis Reed" game 5 a few nights ago. It was black and white, with no sound. They had to provide the crowd noise and commentary. Al Trautwig was in studio and had Mike Roirdan as his co-commentator. Mike Warren was also there but don't know why. He made a few extraneous comments during and after the showing and seemed to have a "why am I here?" expression on his face. IIRC, Walt Frazier had one of the greatest game 7 performances of all time. If you don't remember seeing it, it will be worth watching. Later
