This is cool! Guy is 100, still writing columns. Hasn't missed an issue since 1942.

Danny Raskin turned 100 in January. On Thursday, the weekly Detroit Jewish News turned 77. He wrote a column for the first edition back on March 27, 1942, and he's had a column in every edition since, except for the few decades when he had two.

If you're keeping score at home, that's 4,005 consecutive issues. He is the Lou Gehrig of newspaper columnists, the guy you can't get out of the lineup — and incredibly, almost absurdly, he actually saw Gehrig play.

Mickey (Robert Blake) and Woim (Butch the Bully's sidekick) are the only surviving performers from the Our Gang/Little Rascals series.

Nice interview in the Times today with Bob Newhart, who just turned 90 and is going back on the road to do stand-up. (Maybe at this point it's more like 'sit-down'.)

Well, I'll bet he's glad I cleared that up while he's still among the living.

"Wayne?! Goddammit I was Woim! It's a colloquial pronunciation of 'Worm'. Everyone should know that! What the hell kind of name is Wayne?! Why I oughta slug ya!"

Re: Still alive in 2019

Those "our Gang" shorts were on seemingly every day when I was a kid in the late 1960s and early 1970s, yet I bet my kids, 22 and 27, would have no knowledge of them at all.

I took my daughter for fro-yo this week, and the place had a Roadrunner cartoon running on a screen, and she had no idea who that was.

I know our exposure was a result of only five channels and no other options in terms of VHS, DVDs or YouTube. But it's like those Warner Bros. things disappeared!

You're simply a bad parent. There's no other explanation.

I've gone out of my way this summer to introduce old-school Looney Tunes into my kid's media diet. Not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's right up her Gumball- and Teen Titans-loving alley.

Same with the more PG fare of one Mel Brooks, who is just as pretty as he ever was at 93.

I guess it is probably too late for a 2020 thread, so let's keep this one going.
