Mets Legitimately Bowling

Matt Harvey with that socially frightened look, and Ike Davis throwing the rock:

R.A. Dickey (L) and Tim Byrdak (R) listen to David Wright taking things way too seriously:

John Buck, Johan Santana, and Collin Cowgill, along with a team logo that's just wrong:

Re: Mets Legitimately Bowling

When I was in high school, my friend and I would go to the bowling alley on Northern Boulevard in Bayside on Saturday mornings. MFY left hander Whitey Ford was often there. He bowled with his right hand because he wanted to "protect" his pitching arm. I wonder if pitchers these days share that concern.

Remember these guys? Robin Ventura and Mike Piazza.

I remember reading that Jerry Grote was a professional caliber bowler, but I couldn't find any photographic evidence of that.

Also, while we're talking about bowling, I was at the Museum of the City of New York on Saturday, and they happen to be having a Jackie Robinson exhibit in honor of his recent 100th birthday. Among the items on display were some magazines of the time that had Robinson on the cover. One of the magazines (don't recall the name of the mag) included a headline that said "$1,000 REWARD FOR ENDING JIM CROW IN BOWLING". I'm curious to know more about that. Who was issuing the reward, and what was the criteria for collecting it?

The Mets stopped having Spring Training Team Unity Bowling nights a few years back because too many fans interfered

The Mike Piazza Brunswick Viz -a- Bowling ball. This commemorative was made for about a half dozen or so MLBers.

Bless Piazza's bleached tips, I can't tell if he's got more of a Sum 41 / NOFX / Warped Tour vibe, or if it's more of a nu metal/buttrock pastiche like Puddle of Mudddd, Staind or the biggest of the big dogs, Nickelback.

All I know is that he appears to be holding a 12 pound ball, which is basically for girly-men.

Maybe THAT'S the proof he's gay!

I'm thinking we've got Pelfrey, Gee, and Wright rounding out Team Dickey. That seemed pretty easy, but Team Davis had me stumped. After some internet researchin', and squinting at the shirts, I think we've got Zach Lutz, Josh Thole, and ... Mike Nickeas? Looks a bit chubby.

Looks like Steven Matz does.

It also looks like his usual sad face has fallen a little extra this evening, with the knowledge that he couldn't get any other big shot guests at his inaugural Strikes with Steven event except Mr. Met.

Anybody recognize someone from this crew? The two guys standing by the column look young and athletic.

Unable to wait until he gets to the lanes, Terry Collins amuses his missus by throwing down in the garage.

I have little doubt that John Franco bowls a mean game:

But probably not as mean as should-be-a-Met Mookie Betts, who has rolled 300 in competition.

Brooklyn meets the Bronx as Franco and Bonilla break etiquette and roll at the same time:

Nelson Figueroa shows some strange form as he tries to ignore the smell coming off of actor Jerry Todisco. Hey, Jerry, it's not supposed to be a sweaty sport!

Hey, look, Franco is at the Figueroa event! That's one more Met than at the Matz thingie:

I thought 100,000% that was Isringhausen on the far right for Team Ike.
