Memories of Jerry Blevins

Jerry got hurt early in his first season and then, during his rehab, ended his season by falling off a curb. It allowed him to finish with a perfect line, though.

Jerry got his first career start this season when Jason Vargas came up snake-eyes during his warmups, and Blev ended up giving up homers to the first two guys he faced.

Apart from that, he was a generally worthy contributor in the line of Dennis Cook, Pedro Feliciano, Scott Rice, and Tim Byrdak.

Álex Torres and Félix Heredia, not so much.

No matter how he was pitching, his weekly spot with Pete McCarthy on WOR was a delight.

Seems like a really genuine, likable guy. Looks like an accountant.

I'll always remember that dorky Jerry Blevins Sock Giveaway ad he did with straight man Paul Sewald.

The best Jerry Blevins moment ever was probably opening day vs. Washington in 2015, his first appearance as a Met (wearing No. 13, doncha know) retired Harper in the bottom of the 9th before giving way to noted Met closer Buddy Carlyle. Just weeks after the Nats practically gave him to us.

Mets win, and we're off. He gives up a homer to Harper there and we're probably looking at a whole different kind of year.

I think the club went to the well too often with him, I predicted as much before last year, but their faith in him was also rewarded longer than I would stuck around for, as I still don;t believe he actually "fell off a curb" Or maybe he did but probably had several pints in him in at the time
