Memories of Phillip Evans

Had a real chance to stick when he broke camp with the club at the top of 2018 as an infielder/outfielder hybrid. But his turn ended early when he was demoted after three harmless plate appearances (and no appearances in the field) when the team rushed Conforto back.

Now a Cubsicle.

I associate him with the Alderson regime, I'm sure the Mets did too.

Tannest Met in a long while, looked chubby but was probably just solid. I think he can be seen grinning like an asshole with Trump Jr. in those photos, so afaic he can beat it

The Jeff McNeil of his moment, which passed quickly and without much in the way of results. Played left field early in 2018 but injury-injected roster shuffles didn't give him the time to flower as the next Zobrist (whose pioneering work as a starting utilityman should earn him residuals). He played third while Smith played first on the final home Sunday of 2017 and I couldn't help but notice we had the least athletic-looking corners I'd seen in a while.

Re: Memories of Phillip Evans

Was not Nick Evans, as far as I know. But I will conflate them until the end of time.

Not to be confused with legendary ad executive Philip Phil.

I always thought he'd be better than he turned out to be. One of those "Let's stick him in the lineup for a while and see what he can do" guys.

He never got that chance.

Like Nick Evans, a professional hitter who couldn't hit
