Re: Bloody Wankers!

Nah, I've already booked passage on the Lusitania II.

It's scheduled to get me there in plenty of time, but even if things go the way they did with the first one I can just swim the last couple of miles.

Fortunately, I think German U-Boat activity in the Irish Sea is down these days so I'm not that worried.

Re: Bloody Wankers!

I checked to see how these games fit into the 2019 schedule (of course, it's the MFYs and Red Sox and they are treated like royalty): both teams have home day games on Wednesday and are then off Thursday and Friday. The games are Saturday at 1:10 PM (Eastern) and Sunday at 10:10 AM (Eastern). The teams are off on Monday and have road games on Tuesday (Boston in Toronto and the MFYs at Citi Field).

The Mets have played in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and now possibly England.

Next up has got to be Australia, right?

Re: Bloody Wankers!

London is a fantastic city. If I hadn't just been there in 2017 I'd seriously consider going there to see the Mets in 2020.

But since I was there recently, I'm just casually considering it.

I'm going to be in Scotland at the end of June and thought about trying to make it down to London for the MLB series, but eff that.

=bmfc1 post_id=2631 time=1549657725 user_id=73].The games are Saturday at 1:10 PM (Eastern) and Sunday at 10:10 AM (Eastern).

So that's 6:10 and 3:10 PM local time, and in London even the later game could be played entirely without the lights seeing as how sunset time there in late June = 9:21 PM

Of course it's the Yanx and Sawx so 9:21 will only be 3 hours 11 minutes into the game and therefore somewhere around the 6th inning ... so forget that whole first part.

And Puerto Rico, too! (I know it's technically a part of the US. But still more exotic than Cincinnati.)

Does their chili have chocolate in it like Cincinnati's?

Nothing is more exotic than Cincinnati. Ask Matt Harvey.

Also, when MLB teams play in London, they should play British Baseball rules.

Re: Bloody Wankers!

So I just got home and turned on the Yanx/Sawx from London (didn't realize it was starting so early).

If this really started at 1:00 EDT as my TV sked shows then these Englishmen have to be wondering how we can sit through games that might never actually end cuz it's now

more than two hours in and they're in the top of the 4th. Now granted there's been a lot of scoring (8-6 Yanx) but I'm not sure cricket games run this long and cricket games have

been known to cover several days at a time. I've been watching for five minutes now and I think the same batter who was up when I tuned in just flied out like four seconds ago.

btw, advertising all over the unis: dueling shoulder patches, helmet decals, hat ads, and who knows what else.

Big FOX is televising

Re: Bloody Wankers!

So they just mentioned that pitch number #205 had been thrown in the game (two teams combined). Now up over 210

Again, Top of the 4th!!!!

And now it's 12-6 ... and it's still the top of the 4th!!!

They're now in the 8th inning in London, Yanx lead 17-13

It may already be tomorrow over there. Either that or it's next Tuesday, I'm not sure.

Re: Bloody Wankers!

So this game is being held at the Olympic stadium that they used for the 2016 games, which was then re-fit to be the home park for West Ham United.

Now when they go, as the saying goes, to Chelsea for they replay review (as they just did), does that mean the replay umps are over in the soccer stadium across town?

From that score, it sounds like they played it at YS III.

It's such a typical score for Major League Baseball in Britain.

A quick rundown:

30 Runs combined on 37 hits (16 for XB)

12 BB; 16 K

40 LOB after going 15 for 28 w/RiSP

422 total pitches by 16 pitchers (8 each)

4:42

The booby prize for pitching goes to Boston's Mike Shawaryn who needed 53 pitches to register 4 outs and gave up 8 ER in the process.

Each team scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and each team had another six run inning later on.

The Red Sox were, at one point, down by 11 and yet managed to later get the tying run to the plate

And our game, even with its twin delays of rain (1:10) and HP umpire switch (??), may wind up taking less time than the London mess (even though our contest isn't exactly zipping along either).

Re: Bloody Wankers!

From ESPN:

The game took 4 hours, 42 minutes -- the third-longest nine-inning game in MLB history. The two games that took longer also were Yankees-Red Sox games, with the record being 4:45 on Aug. 18, 2006.

why we sent htose two teams of wankers over there to make everyone think baseball takes forever i don't know.

Doesn't cricket last even longer?

Yeah, but they break for meals in between. Or at least for tea.

Game 2 took a breezy 4:24

Maybe they can send these same two teams to Paris next year and kill any idea of growing baseball in France too.

Sox hit 3 HRs in the 1st inning, and then took most of the rest of the afternoon off.

Yanx put a 9 run 7th, and then the Sox once again got the tying run to the plate after being down by 8 runs.

12-8 was your final.

And I know they're defending champs and all, but every time I see the Sawx they pretty much suck.

Re: Bloody Wankers!

I was too busy at the weekend to take a look at this, but was there any thought on how the fucking score was SO high?

This would seem to make you think that it was pretty much a band box that couldn't keep a fly ball in, but without having seen them it's hard to know whether there was a lot of wall scrapers.
