Do we not have a vacation thread yet this year? Y'all work too hard!

We spent five days in Cancun for the winter break. It was a little slice of heaven and it was hard for us to return. Here we are at Chichen Itza, Fboy representing with his Mets colors.

Re: Vacaciones 2019

we got Cubs- Mets Wrigley visit in June and are planning a trip to Paris Belgium and Netherlands in August.

We screwed the pooch when we visited Cancun a few years back. Stayed in the resort all time, which was only okay. shoulda got out more.

I'm beginning a 10-day west coast roadtrip today for work events in SD and LV.

Doing a Viking River Cruise down the Rhine in July with 12 friends. That's one that was on the bucket list.

We had four full days in Cancun not counting travel days. Of those, we spent a half day shopping at a big mall on the strip, and a full day on the bus where we saw several other sights, and still had 2 1/2 days of layabout time at the resort. That worked for the four of us as a ratio of active time to idle time.

The bus trip included not only Chichen Itza but a shopping stop in Villadolid, complete with a Mayan blessing ceremony, and a swimming hole/lunch visit at Ik Kil. It was a good range of activities for one day.

Go to Oaxaca (first the city and then the coast) next Saturday for a week. Later in Chicago in May and Portland, OR in July for my daughter's wedding. Probably somewhere else in the fall.

Went to Playa del Carmen near Cancun a couple of times about 15 years ago. Did make it to Chichen Itza and liked that.

Apparently I'm going to Buffalo Friday-Monday this weekend. Apparently my brother is graduating. Niagara Falls too obviously.

Going to Boulder, CO for a friend's daughter's wedding this weekend. They got 5 inches of snow last night. Brr.

Not a vacation, per se, but one of my many programmed trips to San Francisco begins 5/23. While there, I am mostly incommunicado, which means I don't participate on forum sites. Therefore, upon my return next Monday, all hell will have broken loose (or so I hope).

Montreal and Toronto early to mid-June. My GF has a seminar for directors in Toronto the week of June 10 and I'm going along for the ride, though I'll be working from Toronto. I haven't checked yet to see if the Jays are in town.

As anyone who has ever read the Chad Guide to Montreal that I send by pm knows, I'll take any excuse I can to get there. Flights from Toronto are cheap, so we're going to drive to YYZ a few days before the seminar begins and fly from there.

We don't generally take long trips in the summer but we do go each year for a half week to the Adirondacks. We stay at the Old Forge Camping Resort in Old Forge, NY (about a 2 hr drive for us) and spend a few days at our favorite small town water park/amusement park. We'll also stay in a cabin and eat s'mores and sit around the campfire.

Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, with my two adult kids. We leave the day after Thanksgiving and will be gone for 2.5 weeks.

It will certainly cause a disruption in the fifth iteration of the Tabloid Cover Derby. The bigwigs in Stockholm are pissed.

Just want to say, the cruise was amazing. But just as good were the 4 days we spent in Switzerland before we sailed. Pictures don't do it justice.

Lunch Family departs tonight for Paris. Will see France, Belgium and Netherlands, back on Labor Day. Will miss 2 Tuesday Night SHaM Club events, not sure how I'm going to keep up! Nervous as we don't know a word of French.

I don't know about the rest of France, but you can easily get by in Paris without knowing any French at all.

Repeat after me: Boisclair. Beauchamp. Paquette.

Got that? Good. Now: Nady. d'Arnaud. Dozier.

Now you are ready to sail. Bon chance!

Trying to find an all-inclusive resort in any Caribbean spot - DR, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Jamaica, etc. - based on the premise that we can just relax and not worry about what all the food & drinks cost, much like we did in Cancun. Family-friendly destination ideas are welcome. Thanks yall!

Afraid to go very far because of the cardio rehab, but we took a week off and had a nice restful time at Narragansett R.I.

It was my first extended time away from work that was not medical related in over two years, and it really felt good.

Beaches, Turks & Caicos. I haven't been there but friends have and they loved it. We stayed at a regular hotel not far away in T & C and we loved the place.

Re: Vacaciones 2019

Beaches T&C looks nice but on the school vacation weeks they want $8k for a five night stay, for a family of four. Cancun, in comparison, cost me $2200. So probably not going to work. I'll have to see what other resorts are down there though because it looks nice.

Re: Vacaciones 2019

We're back! 16 days almost no rain at all which is some kind of record.

France was like completely shut down, the whole nation goes on vacation in August and there's nobody around even to fix your hotel toilet if it backs up. Also saw Versailles.

Belgium is a completely underrated country. My expectation was that it would be old, chilly and dreary-- I guess that's because the only thing I knew about it was War movies. But it was a very lively and fun place. Bruges was *too* touristy but Lueven --college town east of Brussels -- was tremendous fun. Weather was fantastic -- sunny breezy and 70s every day.

Netherlands was very green, very flat, very clean, very bright and windy. I rented a bike there and did several long rides. Cycling there is a way of life though most peeps ride these tanks with milk crates affixed to the front fenders. Almost every road has a bike lane including the highways and terrific signage so it's impossible to get lost. Saw Amsterdam, Haarlem, Alkmar, Zaandam, Rotterdam, Den Haag plus the North Sea beaches where we were based with friends-of-the-family. Weather was awesome there too, though it got to the low 90s once and it was scorching.

Had lots of beer and cheese.

Re: Vacaciones 2019

Sounds like a blast. I want to get to Belgium (and back to France, i was 18 and with school) and I didn't give Amsterdam a fair shake, and loved the two days I was there. One day I'll be wealthy enough to take like month long sojourns with the family around Europe every summer right?

If you want to ramble about the beer, I happen to know a place..

We ended up booking a week in Punta Cana for next April. I have to wait 7 months to go there, though, so that's a kick to my Belgian cheese.

I just ended a stretch where I went six months without having sex*, which I think would be tougher on you than seven months waiting for a vacation!

That's amazing. Was your wife away? Self-imposed celibacy? Obviously don't share if you're not comfortable, but ya know, you did post it here so...

Observations from my recent beach trip:

It takes me much longer to pop up after being knocked down by a wave than it did when I was younger.

There are apparently Jesus Spiders in the ocean, just like in my pool, because there was one on my boogie board

Bike weeks are to be avoided at all costs

September, other than Bike Week, is still good for vacations

I missed my kitties
